Welcome to the 964 world. All sorts of tricks and tips to understand about this quirky machine. All well worth the angst though. I use the hole in the filter method too and it works well. I generally end up with a few drops no matter what, but that's how I roll. Good luck with your car and don't worry about the mess. It's a right of passage. Welcome aboard

Oh yeah - I had the proverbial Exxon-Valdez the first time I did the oil change (but at least I had the foresight to do it in a friend's garage ).

The first oil change is like a fraternity hazing prank. But once you do it you are in the club and it gets slightly easier each time!

Yes, the theme from this thread is "Your Experience May Vary" and enjoy the ride, spills and all. I sure have made my share of bonehead mistakes along the way. The members here are plenty willing to share with a variety of perspectives.

Getting ready to change my oil and seems like all is going to get well something might get wet but I will change mine at some other place .. Hey Marc S can I come over to your house I can bring the beer

I am making bonehead mistakes as well, my DIY procedures I am writing up now are written AFTER the bonehead mistakes, partly so you don't have to experience them yourself.
