I just put a Momo wheel in. All that is need is the wiper part above AND tweaking to make sure it contacts the hub. Most time was spent sanding the plastic shroud so it wouldn't rub on the hub. I also used the bridge plug to turn off airbag light. Worked well.

Apparently it needs a bit of "encouragement/repositioning" though. I'll have to look at that. Can you just tweak it?
Not needed on the 964 AFAIK... I didn't need to.

"Tweaking" means just bending it outwards and making sure it can't move. I cheated with Gorilla Tape...

Now I have a problem. I get one of three scenarios, depending on how I turn the steering wheel:
1. Nothing hapopens. No horn when pushing the horn button.
2. If I turn the steering wheel slightly I now get the horn to function whern depressing the button.
3. If I turn the wheel more I get the horn on all the time, not even pushing the button.
I can get the horn to stop and start by turning the steering wheel. It goes between the three above mentioned scenarios.
So this is definitely not drivable like this.
Any suggestions? Did I put the horn contact piece in wrong?
The horn contact part number is 964.652.104.00
I definitely claimed victory on my Momo wheel install too early on another thread. After firing her up and taking it for a spin I ran into the same horn contact issues as above. I used the 'guess and check' method of re-positioning the contact and with the best result i've been able to attain I still get horn chirps with every turn.....

After reading responses to the same issue on this thread it appears some recommended solutions were to:

1) "Bend the contact towards the boss". The plastic does not appear to be bendable?

2) "You need to move the lower portion of the contact plastic to the right by a small amount, then fix it with epoxy or tape so the brass contact can fit correctly into the groove at the back of the hub." I read this option as not bending the piece just re-positioning and then securing. My question here is how do I know its in the right position before I glue it in place? Once I put the hub on I can not find a way to view where the brass contact is coming in contact with the hub (or not)

Im really stuck here and killing me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't remember the exact details. Its a simple function take a good look at it. You'll see what needs to be done. The 'contact' should be metal. No?

Hi dlpalumbo

I'm just prepapring to take this on and was hoping you could send me more details on the bridge plug. Ive seen a few from the sellers online bu they state theyre for a 944.
Any chance you could point me in the right direction? Also is this the one where you pop off the side of the center console on the passenger side and apply within on the 993?
Cheers

It's a 928 part number and works on multiple models: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...612-220-00-OEM

You are correct on location.

Alternatively, if you buy the steering wheel kit from carnewal it comes with the appropriate resistor to disable only the driver’s airbag. If you would like I can look in my box and post info on the resistor, it should be about a dollar.

Just looked and it's a 2.8 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. About $0.12 from mouser electronics.

Regardless of your approach, good luck with install.

I'm ordering a Momo steering wheel and boss for my 1990 non-airbag 964 and want to confirm whether I need a Steering Wheel Horn Contact (part no: 96465210400). I vaguely remember reading somewhere on this forum that this year/model already has one and can't find the post.
Can anyone confirm please.

Having just done this, yes you do need the horn contact part. And for those with an airbag, simply bending the resistor wires back on themselves and inserting into the orange airbag connector and securing with electrical tape worked just fine for me. No airbag light and no need to fuss around around with molex pins but I'm sure those would also work.

I think this is a tad less than if you add the word Porsche to it. Better buy OEM.

Sorry to bump an old thread. I'm curious. What is the drawback of NOT installing the resistor? Is it just the airbag light? Are there other components in relation to drivability that are affected?

I just received my momo mod 07 and planning to install. While the easy alternative is to use the bridge plug my concern is not having a passenger air bag as my wife is always on a drive with me. Is there anyone out there that has not doin either resistor or plug.

no real downside, only an airbag light that stays on all the time.
