Being the cynical engineer that I am, Steve's suggestion begged the question of how the highly expensive rear reflector and light units are affected by ozone?

As I understand it, the feed air from the vent kit escapes from under the distributor caps, so if you are not happy with that personally I would vent to atmosphere at the bottom of the distributor.

My car has had no bung for, from what I can tell, 96k miles. It could be so backed up that a single bung (einbung) installed using the Porsche einbunginstallierenverfahren, would be more than sufficient to relieve the pressure.

My thoughts exactly.

But...

...we've already determined that the previously accepted einbunginstallierenverfahren won't function properly. It has now been superceeded by TSB 2011-xyz "Doppelbungmitdemeinsicherrhordassmanjetzinstallierenmust" verfahren.

but yew knew that...

anyone with the standard vent kit care to humor me and disconnect the rubber hose from blower tube and manually blow into the tube? Curious how air tight the Distributor is. (would do it myself if I were home)

Just did this, and it seems that the dizzies aren't air tight at all, and if you blow into the inlet tube, there is no discernible restriction

So I think the DoppelBung(TM) Party just took a dive in the polls

Thanks Babalouie, May this be the last time you are ever asked to blow into a tube behind your car.

I was looking forward to installing the DoppelBung(TM) and claiming my free horsepower though

Don't worry, they will be easy to spot by the cracks in their rear reflectors.......

So we've now mitigated the ozone issue in the distributor and moved the problem along to the rear reflector cavity. I love that we're making progress

Now that the problem the didn't exist in the first place is solved, where should I spend the money that I put by for this project.

Upon further reflection, I think the DoppelBung concept still has some merit. Now that Colin has brought our attention to ozone as being an evil substance that will rot your car out from within, I think the only responsible course of action is to install a doppelbung, but instead of venting it to the rear reflector...

if perhaps you could make the hose a little longer, say 30km, you could do some good to the ozone layer
