Default 964RS 3.8 18" Speedline rear wheel rim found & car finished, all thanks to Viggo!

We have a 964RS 3.8 in the workshop that has unfortunately damaged its rear wheel. No problem methinks, just order one from Porsche.

Four weeks later they come back to us and say the part is no longer available.

So, does anyone know where there is a spare outer rim or complete wheel for sale? I'll post photos of the wheel we need later.

What size outer rim do you need? I have some spares. I am not sure if your set is built with 4.25 or 3.75 outer rim. Is the center bent?

Hi Colin.

I believe the outer rims on the 3.8 RS rear wheel is either 4.75" or 5.25" as the offset is close to 0. Either way I happen to know a place in Norway which has two of those rims you are looking for at a reasonable price:

Let me know if you need any help with the transaction, if so I will be glad to help you out.

Cheers Viggo, those would be perfect. I'll check the width that we need and come back to you as soon as I can.

Sure Colin, just tell me when you know the exact size you need and we'll take it from there. Speedline rims are made in increments of .25" so I'll have to check with Espen whether those are 4.75" or 5.25". Let's take this via PM, I'll be happy to help out.

Photos of the damaged rim.

It is an 11" wheel with ET5, from what I can see the outer rim stands around 5" from the flange to the outer rim.

Hi Colin
Have you tried FVD?

Thanks Graham, there's another option. The correct wheel is not listed on FVD's page but will keep a mental note to call ***** if we hit a blank.

Hi Colin. It does look very much like a 5" rim indeed. Do you want me to double check with Espen and provide him with your contact details? FYI, they are asking the equivalent of 550GBP for the two rims. They appear two be in good condition with the "Speedline for Porsche" etching still in place. Might be some room for negotiation as well. Let me know.

With the tye off the wheel, the outer rim measures 4.75" from the face of the mounting flange to the inside lip of the tyre bead. If these are the rims that Espen have Viggo I would be interested in having them, thanks.

Thanks to Viggo () we sourced a new outer rim, rebuilt the damaged wheel and got the 3.8RS back on the road in time for Christmas. Whoo Hoo!!

As a thanks here are a few shots of the paintwork restoration and finished car in the workshop which you will all no doubt enjoy.

The story on the car is that it is a genuine 964RS Lightweight in Amethyst, German spec, in LHD, imported to the UK and converted to full 3.8 body by 9m with all new Porsche panels around 7 years ago. The engine is a stock RS 3.6 on 9m Motec with a 9m superlight RS flywheel that actually makes more power than a genuine 3.8RS and drives like a true torque monster. Out of all the 964RS's we have ever worked on and built, me and Marc both think that this one is the best handling one of the lot. Unfortunately the current owner has decided to sell it to fund a new business venture, so if anyone is interested in owning a unique and immaculate RS it's for sale at £125k (offers considered).

I'll start another thread on the RS once it is valeted and I've had the chance to take better photographs.
