New as in New, or New as in Rebuilt / Overhauled, or New as in a used engine, new to your car?

Well, went over and posted in the other thread. Sorry to hear. I've just lucked into engines at times when I've not needed them. Got 3 964 and 1 993. But not selling.

I'm so sorry to hear your problems bud. I had a similar traumatic experience with my C4 transmission. Do not lose heart, just keep in mind the good experiences you've had and persevere. It will get fixed and when it is you will love it even more, when you regain your trust and forgive..... Good luck with your quest, it will be worth it!

Have you thought about the 993 motor ?
I think its a better motor than the 964 .
A little more HP , two oil filters and a crank that does not need a harmonic balancer .

Did your old motor fling a rod ?

Money is going to be the main hurdle here. If it was 6 months ago or 6 months from now then I might be excited at the prospect of some choice upgrades! However, as it is it couldn't of happened at a worse time (as finances are extremely tight for the next few months) I'm more concerned about getting the engine replaced/rebuilt (mech thinks replacement route makes most sense) for the best value. Obviously I don't want to cut any corners, but I really need some good luck in finding a solution that won't blow the bank.

Also, if I replace, do you think my damaged engine will have any value I can use to offset costs?

BTW, thanks guys for all the advice, here and in the other thread. I can ALWAYS count on Rennlisters when the proverbial hits the fan. I really, really appreciate it!

Yeah the old engine is worth selling.
Theres goin to be loads of undamaged parts on it.

Second hand engines go for around 3grand and a rebuilt one more like 5grand, in the UK.
Is it not worth getting yours repaired?

Mech says not. I think he's considering the cost to strip it down and find out, thinking that it makes more sense to cut my loses and potential for additional cost by finding a replacement and slotting it in.

I haven't managed to have the proper discussion with him that I need to have yet, but that was his comment during the few minutes I managed to ****** with him last night.

Are you saying that he has not taken it all apart ?

If you are going to get another motor , used ,
you can get a 964 or a 993 for just about the same amount , iirc .

No, he hasn't Indy.I still haven't had a detailed conversation with him. He is a well known and respected chap though and definitely as knowledgeable and trustworthy as they come.

From the few searches I've done the 993 engines appear to be a LOT more $$$

I just feel gutted today, like I've been run over by a truck! The worst part is not having a plan in place or any idea of cost, time etc.

I was watching EBay for 993 motors , when they came up they were just about the same price .

If he has not opened it all the way up ...

Taking a motor apart is nothing , putting it back together is .

Unless a rod has knocked a hole in the case , I'd take it apart for a look see .
If all you need is a replacement crank / rod ...

"I just feel gutted today" BTDT , I had the crank reworked .

Oh man this totally sucks. Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but is the 964 a daily driver? Can you park it until finances are in better shape? At least then you can make a decision without haste.

I've had to park my car although my problems aren't as severe as yours. I totally feel your pain though. I'm sure you've checked Pelican 911 used parts section as well?
