Thanks for starting this thread 911Jetta!!! I've yet to experience this problem, but now that I've read your post, I'm certain I will the very next time I try to start her!!! I'm ordering a couple right now.

The only time I ever needed my spare DME relay was after Hurrican Ike hit Houston. Since my garage at the time wasn't the soundest structure (and had large pecan trees looming over it), I parked the 964 in in a garage downtown.

I pulled the DME relay on the car to protect against theft, especially since I had no idea when I might be able to retrieve it after the storm.

When I went to pick it up, I dropped the friggin' DME relay and watched it ping-pong down the center of four stories of parking garage! Fortunately I had a spare.

So, moral of the story is, always carry a spare DME relay!

Right so, I just received my spare DME however the part number is 993 615 227 00. Isn't this then a 993 DME and not a 964 one?

993 p/n is newer and hopefully improved and official Porsche replacement for original p/n.

But hate to break it to you, 993 615 227 00 has been superseded to 993 615 227 01

OEM is .

FWIW, I have an OEM 993 615 227 00 in there, a spare, and what I believe is the original (944 615 227 00)

I'm confused. I ordered a Porsche 'genuine' part. Not OEM or aftermarket. Number I've got is 993.615.227.00 is that correct then?

That is the correct part, however there is a newer version available --> 993.615.227.01 at least in the States. If you're going to pay P-prices, might as well get the latest if you can.

Frank, the one I bought four years ago is the same 993 part number as yours. I bought mine from my OPC. I didn't know it had been superceded again (thanks Laker ). Mine has been working fine for those four years, so you're good to go IMO.
