Unhappy Engine Mount Broke

Hey guys,

I was driving my C2 back from my Mom's house and heard a pop and the engine died. I pulled over and looked and saw the engine was almost all the way out of the car. I had th beast towed home and found one one of the coil wired was broken from trying to hold the engine up. The dealer I purchased this car from claim to have replaced the engine mounts with 993 mounts. My car has a warranty and I think the dealer should pay for me to fix the car, is this unreasonable? I've included photos for your enjoyment. Anybody had this happen?

No question the engine mount broke. It is a maintenance item that should be replaced when it collapses. You probably have a claim. Mounts are ~$300, and there are two. Repair of the coil wire is small change. Good luck with your claim.

WTF is that mess in the bottom photo...a new 993 mount?

Somebody here will have to explain what a "993" engine mount is, how it differs from the plain 'ole 964 mount and how you should go about speaking with your seller; cause I'd just strangle him first.

He claimed to have replaced the engine mounts with 993 ones right before I purchased the car in July. The dealer has a 964 C4 as a daily driver.

Don't want to cast any aspersions, but July was 1mth ago, and it sure does look like there is more than 1mth of corrosion and general cruddiness on the mount in that bottom pic...

I'm confused - that doesn't look like any type of engine mount I've seen before.

I don't see the fuss. Do you have a sales contract with warranty details written?
If yes, have the car towed to the dealer with a note on the windshield:
car broken - 3 months warranty - I'll pick it up in 3 days.

You're looking at the eye on the engine carrier where the motor mount attaches to. It appears the motor mount broke/came apart and the center (attachment point) just dropped out of the darn thing.

Can you post more pics of the motor mount on the other side and the broken motor mount too? Different/more angles?

I didn't know they mounts could break the way yours did. I have heard of engines falling from broken engine carriers, but not mounts. Makes me glad that I recently replaced my 20yo mounts w/ Wevos. Mine were looking super tired and one had already puked its guts out (oil) onto my garage floor after jacking from the motor this one time.

Example of my old and busted mount

He probably recycled some old ones.... many people change them with the stiffer RS ones, so there are many old-but-not-broken available out there.... quess He has RS mounts on his 964....

I pulled the mount out and got some photos. The bolts securing the mount had stripped threads. I retapped the threads in the car. I replaced the broken coil wire by using an old 944 turbo wire, it runs and goes into gear, just needs a mount. I will replace the other mount next weekend. I guess I will be cruising the 944 turbo next week...also a fun drive. Sorry for the quality of the photos, cell phone.

Take a look at the RS engine mounts. Bombproof simplicity. If they bolt on to a 993, I suspect they'll work for you.
