Replacing trans mount in-car....doable?
It's not so obvious in the pic, but I suspect that the rubber element in the transmission mount is starting to split.
I've searched and found a few comments in threads that some RLers have replaced it without pulling the transmission from the car, but no real details on how it might be done
I'm thinking that you could prop up the trans on a jack, then unbolt the supporting crossmember, and that would free up some room.
Would you then remove the old bush like a front wishbone bush? Ie, cut the rubber away, hacksaw a groove in the bush's outer casing and then tap it out with a drift & hammer. Then fitting the new bush would entail making up a tool (which would involve a threaded rod and some tubing I'd wager) to pull the new bush into place.
It (kinda!) sounds doable...anyone had a go at it and succeeded?

It's doable. A friend of mine did it on his back under the car, but it was a pain in the b-tt to do it. I waited until I hade the engine out. But regardless of if it's in or out you use the same method as you did on the wishbones.

just done mine here in the u.k.
jack the rear up under the drain plug, get some axle stands under the jack points and a secondtjack under the tranny to take the weight. undo the 3 bolts holding the mount and single bolt through the mount and remove. it takes some wriggling but it'll come out without removing or undoing anything else including the cross member.
i replaced the whole mount including the bracket as the bush on it's own was about 85% of the cost of the whole mount, also makes the job a whole lot easier.
simple.

The pic shows a set manufactured by TurboKraft. In fact, they used his comments on their website.

Be aware that a harder mount will significantly add noise in the car. Dan Johnson on this board went to a solid mount and his car turned into a NASCAR racer...

No, the RS is rubber as the standard item, even the cup is rubber. They are just a notch stiffer. My mount from turbokraft is a very good compromise. A full solid bush isn't so nice. This alu mount have a rubber core that deletes the noise except on low revs under load. On even speed theres no extra noise.
Yeah, this mounts fits on all G50 trannys.
