I think that the 964's bad reputation is fading too and it's clear in my mind that the 964 is fast becoming a classic which is probably helping a bit!

I know a lot of younger (under 30 crowd) are really starting to take notice of these cars. A lot of them grew up on Hondas and Nissans but many of the popular car blog sites (like Speedhunters or Fatlace) are doing tons of stories on Porsches and companies like Rauh-Welt and Singer. I'm a normal poster on another import car forum and I've seen an large increased interest in the 964s especially since many of the Rauh-Welt cars are based of this generation.
A lot of the crowd that were into Hondas as teenagers/early 20s are now looking at older sports and luxury cars as they've gotten older. For a sports car a 964 is an amazing value right now because you're getting that classic Porsche 911 feel but with a lot of modern amenities.

That's a good theory!
I'm in my late 20's but have always loved the car because of Bad Boys. It has always been a favorite movie and the 964 Turbo in it is just too cool. Kind of like all those first time Ferrari owners who used to watch Magnum P.I.!
But what's strange is that, although I always lusted for the Turbo, lately the basic C2 has attracted me much more. It just seems so much more tossable and pure fun.

I also don't like lag, so it seems like a win win situation to me (especially costing 1/2 the price of a Turbo).
I think more people will realize the golden compromise (affordable, reliable and fun classic). Before all of them do, I will try to get myself a sweet, maintained 964 of my own, to keep for many years. I came to this forum to learn about both 964 and 997, and I know which section I'm visiting more often.
One other thing is that, as a BIG car nut, I want the social aspect of a sports car ownership. I know for a fact that not all those 997 drivers are genuine enthusiasts (very often bought for the status). But no random guy with money goes and buys a 964 without really wanting one with his heart.
Can't wait to join this club.

For me, my primary relationship is the 964. I've had affairs with 993's and 996's that were just that, affairs... I've come back to the 964 but thank god w/out selling it to realize just how good I had it. I love my car. I love the way it drives. I love the attention I get. Period.

The more I think about it the less I understand this bad reputation. Whoever comes up with this bad reputation must not have owned one ever.
Did Porsche ever build a bad car?!? I didn't think so.
