The new Michelin Pilot Super Sports are getting rave reviews as a perfect compromise for road and track:
http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/mich...ot-super-sport
The ideal sizes for 18s on a 964 would be 225/40 and 265/35 which I guess is what you were running before the rear puncture?
I would get a set myself but they don't do them in anything smaller than 18s![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Edited to add: Looks like Michelin are only offering a limited range in the 18s so you would have to go with 225/45 and 265/40.

For some reason only known to Michelin they only supply the super sport in the larger wheel sizes in the UK. The same is true for the pilot sport cups which are a fabulous track tyre but no longer available to us as a 17 inch tyre

Atm I'm thinking:
TOYO R1R Apparently don't last as long as others...
Yokohama Advan AD08 Apparently excellent feel...
TOYO R888 How loud are they? Bare in mind my G-pipe, cat bypass, would I hear them through that racket?
FEDERAL 595RSR The Federals seem a good compromise....
I'm sooo lost!

See the comments from our other Frank who agrees about the noise. It's a different kind of noise to the base of the engine/exhaust. It's a high pitched whine that grates after a while. My Mrs doesn't like being in the car when the R888s are on. They ARE bloody good for grip on track though. ![burnout](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/burnout.gif)

Here are my findings...
TOYO R888 are great but seem to wear faster and need more progressive heating up. Perfect track day tyre, no surprise there.
Federal 595RSR, mixed reviews and it's not a brand that seems to have a lot of provenance... Although price is great.
TOYO R1R, mixed reviews and seam to suffer under heat from long periods of track use...
YOKOHAMA AD08, seem to be the best all rounder... The tyre between the R888 and the R1R - I think this may well be my answer!
At the moment I'm looking at buying which ever set from 'Deamon Tweeks'
Brilliant thanks for all the help thus far gentlemen!

Bear in mind that the softer compound tyres can harden and crack with very low temperatures (below -9 deg C I think). I would avoid any of the track compound tyres if you store your car outside during the winter and these tyres won't work well at these temps either. Personally, I keep two sets of wheels - one shod with Conti SC2's for the winter and one with R888' for summer and track.

Also - how would a track tyre like the R888's handle wet weather/slippery surfaces? Surely it would be a bit dicey out and about in poorer conditions on something like that.....given the UK climate is 11mths crap weather and 1mth of good weather...might be worth considering

I thought the R888's would be terrible in the wet but they are actually surprisingly good. That said, standing water is a different thing entirely, I got caught in torrential rain a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of very hairy moments where water was running in streams across the motorway.
