Shift Linkage Failure - Fix
I know this topic has been covered but my problem has been fixed. Wanted to give out the part numbers for everyone else's reference.
On 7/30 I was driving the 964 back home and lost all shifting ability. Thankfully I was near home so I only had to do one stop from 4th.
When we picked up the car, I noticed that the shifter would be able to come up, and that reverse and 5th were a bit of a bear to get into. I think what happened was that when I was shifting, I accidentally pulled back onto the shifter and the linkage fell off of the bottom. Oops.
Using this thread as a guide: Cure for the fallen shifterl, I then pulled the undercarriage tray and found out that, yup, the bushings in the linkage were the consistency of candle wax, and the shifter tube had fallen out.
After doing a bit of legwork online, I found that part #928-116-145-03 (about $15/each) would fit into the cups on both ends of the shift rod (15 and 16), and (for reference) #964-424-224-01 for the shift sleeves (26).
So instead of spending $87 for 16 and $60+ for 15, I spent a grand total of $45 (with taxes and PCA discount) at the dealer for all of the parts needed.
The 911 shifts beautifully now, and reverse and 5th are a breeze to get into. Much success.
