So my car has been mutilated by the previous owner who thought they would cut the car stereo up. it has a huge amp in the hood and little amps in the door panels it also has super big speaker wires running all over. its so bad i cant figure out what is factory and not. he even tied the new huge amp in with the old am under the seat. what i am looking for is to make it look stock ( did the 964 ever come with a cd deck and if not can you retro fit a 993 in easily? ) is there a good maintenance book that has wiring diagrams in it ?
The amps in the doors are probably cross overs for the speakers. Don't think the 964 ever came with a CD player. Any DIN sized head unit such as the 993 cd player should fit
In my opinion, the best period correct unit would be the CDR-210 (in dash CD) or CR-210 (cassette). Both of these were available options in the later 964 (I've seen them as factory installed in Speedsters) and both can control the CDC-3 6 disc changer that installs in the front boot.
The photos show my CR-210 and CDC-3 along with MB Quart speakers and the Alpine amp under the front seat.
thanx for the imput and looks good. now are there any maintenance books that have wiring diagrams in there like a haynes or a bently....?
to answer your ? lake no i wish i had a clean setup like that but mine more looks like a nest of wires with all aftermarket cheap electronics...pluged
Yeah, it took a bit of effort to make the room but IIRC the only thing I really had to move was the module labelled "92913" at the bottom of the picture. It could be tucked into the space under the passenger side sill without any mods required to the cable.
The amp had to be fairly low-profile and sit flush on the aluminum base plate so that it didn't interfere with the seat bottom when the seat came all the way back. With amp under the seat the whole setup looks completely stock and sounds awesome with the MB Quarts up front and Alpines that fit perfectly on the rear deck.
