Default 964 Development Testing (video and screen shots)

This is painful to watch or even to look at the pictures...

I'm trying to improve my German, so I often watch car review shows on Utoob. I randomly started watching this and almost stopped...but I found an interesting segment....964 development testing! Starts at 1:30...until 2:00.

http://youtu.be/5Vj8IHW1JXE

Still trying to figure out why they tried to drive over the huge pile of dirt....

good stuff, although not as painful as watching LA dismantlers taking apart a 964 with an (actual) hammer.
re: the sand, perhaps to test the airbag sensors without totaling the car??

They must have lost the rear bumper somewhere.

With respect to that video...I had a special day last summer when a friend of mine at Porsche invited me and a college to Weissach (Porsche R&D) for a meeting between the company I work for here. The last hour before we left for home was spent on their 2 test tracks. The outer road course and the inner off road course that you saw on that video. For off road Tests, we were in a cayenne and it was incredible what they put the cars through. The steep pass center, side hill and bath if you will surely cover off the entry to any Macys!!..
exceptable/green light was 1700 km on that track with no breakdown. The same went for the high Speed Road course.
911 turbo and panamera were put to their test by our 220 lb Test Driver. Blew my mind actually. (As did the 907 and GTS RS Hybrid that just happened to be doing laps and or testing.)
All those possibilities to test are a stones throw from their "Fort Knox" secured r&d Center.

I understand the method behind the madness but it's still hard to look at. Just the thought of destroying a P-car

Other manufacturers do the "gravel pile" test, too.

From a clip on Volkswagen testing, they do the same thing around the 1:50 mark.
