Default Is that a Karmann Ghia?

As my daughter and I were getting out the car at our church parking lot, a lady asked me if my 964 was a Karmann Ghia. What?!!! Obviously, I was a little insulted at first, but you know, I used to own a Ghia and always loved the body style. That's probably the reason I like the 964 so much, with its classic styling. Anyone else out there have a similar experience?

The similarities end with the engine being in the rear, but have to admit I do miss my old Ghia.

Same here. I'd love to have another one, but most of them are rust buckets now, and to get a really nice restored one, you're going to pay mid teens. No thanks.

In a supermarket parking lot: "I like your car. I don't know what it is, but I like it a lot"

You know art when you see it, and both bodies are timeless

I had two 69's and still miss them. The view when driving the air cooled Porches is shockingly similar.

This is so funny, this also happened to me a couple years ago!

Getting in to my car at a friend's house. An older woman walking by was like, ooohh, is that a Karmann Ghia? I used to have one and I loved it!

I politely corrected her but was secretly thinking you actually had a Karmann Ghia and thought this was one? Must have been a long time ago...

Now that I was thinking about it, maybe the Cayman got a few notes from the KG--unintentionally, of course:

I wouldn't be insulted... that would be "Karma Ghia" for me, because thanks to a kindly aunt (she had a '70), that was the first car I learned to drive solo, at the ripe old age of 14. My family had a weekend house out in the sticks, she used to come up and visit. She taught me how to drive a clutch, and then threw me the keys and let me take it out by myself on the back roads. I never went over 35, it had about as much power as a garden tractor. But boy was it a blast! You felt like you were sitting on the floor, but visibility was good even for a 14-yr-old kid. Very similar feeling, very go-kart like.
It was the usual blue, like this one. I loved that car.

It may have been an honest, if not confused question. Perhaps the lady owned a "Karmann 911" at one time long ago. Afterall, Karmann built 911 bodies for Porsche in the late sixties (and early 70s I think).

Thats what I get all the time. "what kind of car is that? Its very nice" I also get "thats a cute car" from alot of older women. I dont mind the compliments. I also like the ghia. One of the first cars I learned body work on was a ghia.
