Default Anyone tried Brigdestone Re 050's

My mechanic is recommending I go for Bridgestone RE 050's. Anyone have any experience with these?

My P Zero's have had their day and he reckons these are the best value for money for the 964.

As a run flat tire these are great. Compared to the absolute top in non-run flat tires their performance in the dry is hardly lacking......in the wet they are rather tricky however.

I have P Zerro Rossos on my 964 , and Bridgestone RE050 on my BMW Z4. Would not put them on my Pcar.

The Bridgestones have great dry grip , but suffer bad tramlining and bump steer, and feel decidedly average in the wet, (skitish) Will not be replacing them with more Bridgestones.

Happy with PZerro Rossos on the 964 for street use and replaced like for like last time. Any way the red logo looks cool sad I know!

Bridgestones on Z4 255x35x18 & 225x40x18 RF, so bit lower profile than 17's on 964.

I just wore out a set of Re050 poleposition on my 993. I liked them but they were the Non runflat version. I replaced them with a much cheaper set from Hankook (something 12) About 1/2 price of the re050). So far I like them just as much .

I've had RE050's on my BMWs, I think BMW and Bridgestone are in bed together especially with the run flats, and hated them. A good alternative to the RE050 are the RE760 from Bridgestone. I have them on my 964 and love them. Another good option are the ContiExtremeContact DW, great reviews on this tire. I think John is talking about the Hankook EVO12 (K110) as that is the ONLY Hankook tire I would put on my P car.

RE050 A's or pp's? In each case they are good tyres for the money. Much better than the S02's I have now. If I were to buy new std size road tyres I'd go for RE050's - or PS2's if cost was irrelevant.

Thanks guys. What does the term 'run flat' mean? What's the difference?

run flat is a reinforced sidewall tire. if you get a puncture you can still drive on the tire until you can safely change it. the re050A in a run flat is one of the most popular in north america at least.

Had the RE 050As on mine, wasn't very impressed but at that time I was having tracking issues which may have swayed my judgement. I think getting the Pole position ones over the regulars is quite important. Are they N-rated? As per Tuscany964 the Michelin PS2s would be my and many others tyre of choice.

I'm seeing a lot of confusion between the runflat and non runflat RE050 tires. The difference in road feel and performance will be quite different between them. Bridgestone runflats do come OEM on BMW's so that is where you see a lot of them out there. There's a pretty big difference in wet performance between the RE050 and the RE050A Pole Position as well. Michelins are excellent from a response standpoint but are not as comfortable on the highway. The Bridgestones (any of them) will take bumps better. Many who run runflats on their BMW's will not run them a second time, and the comfort difference is quite noticeable when going to non-runflats. As an OEM 997 tire I sell more Bridgestones than any other. If I were to put replacements on my car, I'd put Bridgestone on over the Pirelli.

Sidebar: We just did a wet-weather test here yesterday, and the rain performance of the new S-04 was night and day different from the Pirelli. The Bridgestones were the clear winner due to their wet traction.

I find this pretty straightforward and handy if wanting to compare different brands. Doesn't take prices into account tho

I put non runflat RE050 PPs on my BoxsterS that I used to have and absolutely loved them over the factory Dunlops they replaced. I believe they now have a Porsche N spec of them, although probably not in sizes we could use. I think this is a great tire, and quiet.

RE050A on my 4S DD. Replaced the OEM Michelin PS. The Bridgestones are quieter, better riding and have excellent dry and wet grip. No tramlining issues in spite of having 305 rears.
