Default Laguna Seca Duel: C2 vs. C4...Who Wins?

With all the talk of the differences between the C2 and the C4, I was wondering who'd win in a match-up at Laguna Seca with all things being equal...same year, bone stock.

And then wet the track...who wins? I'm curious because my C4 pulls so hard through tight corners that I can't imagine a C2 being able to keep up...am I dreaming?

wet track C4, dry track C2
Get the understeer corrected on the stock C4 and it would be even closer on the dry

Love hearing the ayes leaning towards the C4...I could understand if it was the extra weight of the C4 that would give the C2 the advantage, but what if one were to shed the extra 220 pounds off the C4? Seems the C4 would then definitely triumph.

I hear the sound of a thousand C2 owners gnashing their teeth...

not only the weight, but with two powered axles, there is more energy lost getting power from the engine to the wheels

I have a C4 with kwv3s, H&R antiroll bars and strut brace. Understeer - non existent. Bone stock - different story.

Not long ago I read the story of the audi 4 wheel drive beating more powerful american race cars on the track because the audi saved its tires because the power was going to the ground via 4 tires . When the tires on the more powerful 2 wheel drive race cars started to overheat or go off the audi would go right around the american race cars . I don't know if a C2 would start to lose its rear tires if the race was long and or hot at Laguna Seca , but if it did the C4 might do what the audi did .

There was once a thread on this list about a guy with a 928 saying he would bet his house on a race against a 964 . I wanted to race him in the snow or on ice .

if awd was so good f1 would be doing it.......look at the Nürburgring times rwd p cars are king. making your front tires turn brake and power makes tires wear out and cause over-steer no matter how much parts you throw at it......a tire is good for doing 2 things at one time......

I'll go with the simple (and I think honest) answer.......the best driver!

No. Because there are rules in F1 and AWD is illegal.
However, AWDs are clearly superior in WRC, not even in the same league, not even close.

Something like that. First, I'm not sure why you'd bother with bone stock. Both are pretty horrible on the track.

Now specifically as to Laguna, it's a pretty boring track to just run laps on. Brake at the 2, turn at the 1. Repeat for half the turns. T9-T11 is somewhat interesting, but that's about all. T2, T7, T11--you're just hauling *** in and standing on the brakes. T6 used to be epic, but the runoff got widened. Great for wheel-to-wheel, or if we were talking about the original non-neutered layout.

But to answer the question. The '92 C4 was a ~1:47 car for me with Kumho V700s (225 + 255 X 17), Bilstein Euro RS + lowering springs, Cup stabilizer bars, Pagid pads + decent fluid. RSA #2 was a ~1:45 car with the shocks/springs that came from the C4, running on 235 + 275 RA1s. Make what you will of the difference in tire compound. RSA #1, the stock class club racer was ~1:41 with race shocks + proper springs, the Cup bars and enough weight out to make the 2760 lb. class minimum.

I wasn't running data in those days, so I can't get more specific.

Oh, and if you want to know what matters in the wet, consider one time we had to qualify on a wet track and I was P2 of ~45 cars (I would have been about 15th if it were dry) at over 2:00.

Oh, and the RSA race car's times were on Hoosiers. Never could get much below 1:43 with either Kumhos or Michelin Cups.
