Kai,
If I'm not mistaken, that shot you posted was taken at the San Diego Porsche Parade four years back. It sure looks familiar, especially the cars and building in the background. I was there with my RSA and also noticed a US Cup car (964) owned by the guy who started the Cup car registry and who bought the car new in 93 from a local dealer. Way cool.
So is this car your inspiration?

Yes, it is absolutely. Suspension, brakes and tranny are all essentially done now, body and engine remain for next year ... as of right now, I am officially searching for doors, fenders, top, and hoods. We will have wheels made.
And of course Gamroth will have his way with the engine...it is said in some circles he "kind of" knows his way around a 3.8.

As for the doors, fenders, bumpers, hood, top, etc. Are you thinking carbon?

Budget might ultimately decide, as the engine will certainly cost a lot - I intend to go as far as I can with it. Doors and bonnet should be aluminum and the fenders should be steel, but we'll see what is out there. I have yet to speak formally with Jeff about this (have with Steve); he may want to source stuff himself to keep everything "in house". I don't really know.
This fall I will begin to ruin a perfectly good RSA interior (I bought a gorgeous, pristine car to start with), dash and wiring loom. I really have just begun research and assume that, like any clone, many things will have to be trade offs btw. cost, availibility and common sense.
