does anyone have any information on the differences between a 330 type code and a 340 type code besides that one is a california model (340) and one is a USA standard model (330)
both are carrera 2 coupe. is the difference a simple matter of california emissions standards?

I own a 340 type, which as far as I can tell through the records, never saw anywhere near Cali. Purchased new in VA. I spent (too) much time trying to solve this mystery, but finally gave in when I read somewhere that there is simply no difference mechanically for these cars...it's a red-tape thing

Yeah, it was a big controversy. It was the most retarded thing.
It was an awesome commercial.
Started out on a country road with a jogger and a bug buzzing around and he shoes the bug away, then the bike rider and the bug buzzes around, then it might be a motor cycle or scooter, then a car the bug keeps getting upset more by turbulance and it's really buzzing around then the Porsche Turbo SPLAT on the windshield and then the windshield wippers wipe what's left of the bug away.
It ends with the simple tag line.
KILLS BUGS FAST
It was brilliant.

The only difference I ever came across with the California cars was a requirement that the ECU firmware contained code that allowed the check engine light to pulse fault code sequences when the ignition was switched on with the throttle pressed to the floor (without cranking the engine). If the information I have is accurate, the standard North American PROM part number was stamped 1267356142 (this is what came in my car) and is listed as 964.618.124-01, and the California part was stamped 1267357006 and was listed a 964.618.124-03.
Before I put in my Autothority MAF and chip, I found a copy of one of these CA chips and put it in my car. Sure enough it flashed the engine fault codes when you did the ignition switch/throttle thing.
