Why do you think the 964 still gets negative feedback?

Yes, that's the car. I heard only great things about them. Spoke to Kevin who you probably know and he will sell the car for $58,000. Have no idea if this is a fair price. Car looks amazing. Do you recommend I still do an inspection?

What I have no clue about is dealing with any of the potential faults the car may have (plus the issues that go along with 20 years of storage)...I would assume most collectors would park this car next to other cars in their collection, and never drive it? No driving = no worries.
It's a different world, I have a 20 year old car with 125,000 miles that drives like a tank!! I can't wait until I hit 200,000 miles. As much as it saddens me that no one ever had fun driving this car around...I don't think I would drive it either. Maybe if it had a couple thousand miles on it...
Do you plan to drive it? Good luck!
Some pics I took of the car at the end of 2009>>

Markusc - nice car..personally i treat all cars to an inpection as a few hundred quid/dollars upfront can save u thousands either through negotiation off price if there are issues or you get them to fix as part of the car prep. Lots of dealers will give a car a nice wash and detail but leave it to you to identify the problems and then negotiate that as part of the deal. If the car comes with a warranty - if its bullet proof - then u may be ok - most 3rd party warranties i have read about arent worth the paper they are written on.
Also - just my opinion - but lets say you pay $58kish....and you then plan to put miles on it....you then lose a lot of the premium of it being a very low mileage car. Its a C4 at the end of the day not an RS. If its to sit in a collection then maybe thats a different proposition. I would want to be clear on my objectives for the car before paying that much.
Looks nice in that shade of green though and good luck with it.

First of all, I appreciate the great feedback and time to relay the information. I'm a lot more knowledgable with 993's and 70's and to your point about if I am going to drive it? Yes. I figure about 4,500 a year. What I am struggling with is the true value. Agreed about the collectable. I'm restoring a 1970 911S right now and can understand the collectable price points. Thank you for the photos! Both responses have been helpful. Now I just have to determine if I want to pull the plug. Thought about offering $49,000 and seeing where we go from there?

Hi Mark,
Glad to see you made it over to the RL 964 board. Well from the short discussion on the Early S board I had no idea you were seriously considering the ultra-low mile Road Scholars 964.
Man, that is an almost new 20+ yr old car. Amazing condition and very nice color. As others have said my concern for you will be a very large premium paid for a car that may need quite a bit of addition funds spent to sort through the problems that will arise as you start to put miles on the car. Don't under estimate the cost of what that could be. Let us know how the PPI goes.
Please share with us on the Early S board some photos and the story of your '70S. I would love to see and hear about it.

Drifting
At least initially, every mile you drive is pretty much depreciating the car $2. (would you pay 38K if it had 10K miles?) Also don't forget you need to drop another $5-8K or so to replace all the dried out seals and brake/oil lines.
by the way, what's all that brown crud on the wheel wells, springs and oil tank? Must have been one heck of a 100 miles.....

+1 unless you want to keep it as a trophy, I would look for a well maintained 964.

The brown stuff is Cosmoline.
