Why do you think the 964 still gets negative feedback?

All that I can say is that when I drive around, pull up to a light with others beside me, or when I park downtown, I see the looks from old and young alike--and women, too. And they are positive looks. Looks, that sort of say, "That's cool." Sometimes people even slow down a look. And around here, there are TONS of newer Porsches. That is enough for me to combat the so-called negative feedback.

I owned a 993 C4S and loved that car, but when I wanted to get more serious about my track performance, that was not the right car. I learned to 'drive' in that car, but absolutely love my 964 and believe it is the perfect platform for me. I am bummed to see so many people moving to newer platforms, but tastes do change over time.
An air-cooled is an emotional experience, unlike the newer cars, and the 964 adds safety and modernity to it all.

I want a higher mileage one to drive daily. If it comes with D90s so much the better as I think they look right on the 964
Anyone want to trade for an E46 M3?
Cheers,
Joe

Absolutely man! Could not agree with you more. I had an experience the other day at the local highschool track. I was out there jogging and overheard some young HS kid yell to his buddy "Hey Darren, somebody has a porsche parked out there!" Even young kids born well after the 964 have an appreciation of this model.

Markusc - i would get a good PPI with leakdown and then make a decision as objectively as possible (it is easy to get wrapped up in the emotion of seeing a car that appeals). I have had my 964 since last June and mechanically have had no problems.

Markusc,
Why do you say you are interested in the 964?
Have you ever owned a Porsche before? Have you driven a 964 or any other one?
Like many have said a good PPI by a solid Porsche independent will help ensure you find a good example, but don't fool yourself...these cars are 20 years old and with that comes maintenance that you wouldn't expect from a newer car.
If you have a desire to learn the character of the car, how it works, and will take care of it it will last a very very long time. If you can learn to do some of the basics yourself with just a jack and hand tools you can cut down on the costs significantly. (all of this can be learned right here).
The folks on this forum love the 964 and will recommend finding a good one and enjoying the journey.

89 964 c4
Thank you for the feedback. I own a 993 95 coupe and love it. I came across an 89 model c4 with less than 1,000 miles, a car that was purchased by a collector. I love the style and ride but the feedback I have received from several people has been that the 89-92 models have had major issues. I've had no issues with my 993 so before I pull the trigger on this car was looking for additional feedback from 964 owners.

If you treat it like the previous owner, and don't drive it, you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

89 c4
Great feedback! Much appreciated.
Any opinion on what a fair price would be for a 1989 C4 under 1,000 miles- Forrest Green Color which I understand to be a limited edition color for this car? This car is owned by a collector and is really brand new!

I know of one Forest Green '89 C4...but it only has 101 miles on it, not 1000. (either mileage total is incredible!!!)
It's just up the road from me at Road Scholars. Great guys, with an unbelievable collection of cars. They've been gracious enough to bring out a couple of the cars to our local cars & coffee meets over the years. A couple weeks back they showed up with a U.S. Cert. 964 RS (link).
Is this the car you are looking at? 1989 911 C4 Forest Green Metallic with only 101 Miles
I also had the good fortune of seeing it at their open house a while back, I took a couple close up pics. of the wheel wells, etc. (link)

You are probably aware, but buying a 20 year old car with no miles will require a good amount of work if you plan to drive it. I don't have a full list nor am an expert, but would think an entire engine re-seal would be needed as well as what has happened with the fuel and fuel pump etc.
Just to think about.
