FYI on the Porsche classic unit - I spoke to my local Porsche dealership today and they confirmed that the unit isnt supposed to be flush. They have one available for me to look at pre-install so I
I like the look of this Porsche classic unit and think it works well in the 964 and 993 dash. Hmmm.
I find my Becker Grand Prix a bit hit and miss. It sounds great (although thats alot to do with the JL Audio amp and speakers) but the system software is a nightmare to understand. Trying to tune the radio is unfathomable without the manual (and even then it remains a challenge while driving). The bluetooth telephone is a borderline fail too as you have to shout so that the other person on the call can hear you (with the mic mounted by the steering wheel). Coming across iPod leads at resonable cots is tricky too.
So maybe this Classic unit is for me!
Anyone know the answers to these questions (especially owners who have the actual manual)...
1. Does the rear conenctors have provision for a pre-out? At least on the front channels. So that I can pipe that into the amp?
2. Whats the purpose of video out connections? Does this suggest it plays video? I'm thinking to some rear screens to keep the kids quite on a journey.
Sticks out half and inch on 964/993 which defeats the purpose of what should look like a factory installation IMHO. Not to mention...964/993 interiors can arguably go both ways in terms of updating/backdating...this looks a bit 'old' for the 964 IMO.
Music only, no nav. Pioneer DEX P99RS, reference model, so not cheap, and you need a separate amp. But still looks great, and would fit the 964's looks IMO.
I went to OPC Chester at lunchtime to have a look at the Classic Radio manual. The unit appears to have pre-outs for the rear channels, but not the fronts.
Fortunately my amp will still take the speaker level outputs (by reducing the input sensitivity) and although not ideal, could be configured to work.
the lack of iPod flexibility is making me think twice now though.

Nice! When some lousy brass valve guide cost $10K to fix this seems like a deal!
