964 audio / navi system recommends?

The Porsche navi-system is still in development for the US according to my dealer Brumos. Not available. I keep seeing it pop up here and there and you may even be able to purchase it but it won't have navigation.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to know if anyone has gone forth with any of the radio options listed here ? I too am interested in the Porsche Classic unit but price is an issue and as others have stated, the screen is small and would be in a place far away from our eyes in a 964 or 993. I have the JVC unit (KD NX5000) that Cobias put a link to. Don't think it is available any longer but I will likely be taking mine out if there's any interest. The unit works fine BUT... this screen is also small and I only look at it when I'm stopped. If not, it is pretty dangerous . Also, to be frank, the buttons are all push up / down and I'm an analogue guy, I need plain old weighted ***** that turn. Not digital ones that beep when you push em. Anyone have luck with the Porsche Classic Unit or other?

Thank you for you input cscrogham. I will go with the Classic. I don't have a strong need for the navi ( in this car at any rate ) but still think it must be tough to see such a small screen that far away. Does anyone know, can the classic accommodate a rear view camera ? I know this topic has been kicked around til its roadkill but I've got two little ones and my neighborhood is full of kids on bikes, skateboards, etc. Personally, I'm in favor of being able to see all that I can, granted, the 964 is a small car ( esp vs 991 C4S ) but there are still places one cannot see.

You won't get a RV camera with the Classic setup, you would have to do something aftermarket to get that.
What I have found re the screen size, is that when using the Nav you also have a voice asst and the screen changes somewhat while driving so a glance gives you better info than you might think. The best answer is to always carry a co-pilot with you to help manage those things
For me, the #1 help is the bluetooth to phone, the mic works well for hands free and makes the car feel modern enough to use on a daily basis (which I almost do). Then add satellite radio to the mix and the nice look and feel that fits the car and its a winner. I hear you on the price, but in reality its not that bad when compared to other full systems and I think adds a lot to the original look of the interior.
I really dislike aftermarket looking radios in a 911, but that's just me.

Thanks again for the input. I realize PCRadio doesn't come with a RV camera but was wondering can it accept one if I buy it separately and have it hooked up etc. I will research that more. The voice assist can be helpful- hadn't thought of that. I never use the phone in the car ! It is relegated to "me and my 911" time but I really hate the way my JVC looks in the interior. This will fit the bill nicely and the price doesn't really bother me that much. The classic looks like it was made for the 964 because it was !

The old classic is pure crap. I have it on my Morgan. Looks really nice but it's miserable in terms of quality build, signal, navi. I have been told the new one is much better.
With the old one it was possible (standard video in signal). I bet that with the new one will be the same.
Anyhow the manufacturer is Kramer Automotive.

I didn't realize there are two different Porsche Classic radios. I assume the 1st model is the one posted by J. Rygg ( the 2nd post in this thread ) ? Thank you for the info. I feel safer with a back up camera.

This is how version 1 looks in "flesh" (and yes, it's sticking that out)
And this is the rear camera and the vierw from the monitor (camera "guidelines" are not moving if you move the steering
