I´ve been offered a nice 993 C4
I was in the shop today to change some lenses, the shop owner has a very nice black on black 1997 993 C4 and he offered to sell it to me, the price: my 964 plus 45k U$S meaning he takes my car at 55k U$S.
The going rate here for very good 993´s is around 100k U$S
the offer is tempting but I still really prefer the 964 shape plus 45k U$S is a lot of money here, and i mean really a lot

My opinion: The 964 is gorgeous, stunning, beautiful. The 993 may be a little more sophisticated, a little newer, yet it lacks the classic 911 shape. With all things being equal I would still keep the 964. For a lot of extra money, I'd definitely say 'thanks but no thanks'. That's just me.

I don't agree, IMO the 993 will be the last air cooled but not the last air cooled with classic lines.
The 964 or 993 are far from being exotics or low production so I don't think neither will have the investment uplift that you could get with an exotic/limited production car.
For me the 993 has the sweetest @ss but the front is pretty bettle-esque so in general it doesn't make me sell my 964 for a 993.

I understand the attraction to a 993, but it can't be justified at that price. I prefer the 964. It's the best of the old and new (at the time) The 993 is kind of a bastard. Looks too much like a 968 in the rear view too.

"I don't agree, IMO the 993 will be the last air cooled but not the last air cooled with classic lines." I'm not sure what you're in disagreement with? Whether it's the fact that the 993 is the last of the air cooled Porsches (i.e. as far as I know that was the last 911 derivatives which was air cooled) or that the 993 may have some future investment potential based of the fact that it is the last of the air cooled Porsches. Unless you have a crystal ball I don't think you can disagree and I'd like to know if I should invest in Suncor stock or is this environmental craze going to take off . I remember in the late 80's when used 308's (i.e. they maybe a little more exotic than a 911) shot up in price the day after Enzo died. As for the classic lines, I wouldn't disagree that the 964 is more appealing but I was just trying to avoid being biased, after all this is a 964 forum. But I do like the 993 rear end and the 964 front end. Maybe when we're all driving around in Jetson hoover crafts in the future, that there will be a demand for both depending if your an *** man or a breast man

Let me rephrase, I don't that a 993 will have any better investment value over a 964. In my opinion if anyone wants to invest on an air-cooled your should bet on something like like a 356 or RS, etc, and even those ones the market peaked already and you won't see those crazy bids in Barret J. anymore. I don't think that any of my beloved 911: SC, Carrera, 964, 993 and even 996,997, etc.. will ever be an investment.
I wouldn't buy Suncor stock, you should buy Cenovus (SAGD is the greener way over mining that will be heavily taxed in the next few years).. How's that for a crystal ball?

Just to clarify my original post, no way I will exchange my beloved 964 C2 plus 45K U$S for a 993.
I haven´t seen another 964 1993 C2 manual coupé in my country, only a 1993 RSA in blue but that´s another story.
There are a few 964 C4s some of them cabriolets and even one or two tiptronics but my car is rather unique here (we have maybe around fifteen 964s around here and a little bit more 993s and that´s counting the whole country)

Anyone know the wt, hp, & frontal area numbers between the 993 S and plain 964 coupe?
(I'm doubting the cd's are all that different?)
May be the increased frontal area or wt of the 993 negates (or swamps) any of its hp number superiority over the 964.
In other words, this is sounding more of a style-preference thread to me - not a substantive performance delta.
What price style?

From: Seattle xburb - I can't see the Emerald City, but I know it's out there somewhere
Whether $45K for a 964, or $100K for a 993 - that's a lotta dough.
I like 993's, but I don't see how the 993 is worth double the 964, in any case.
So if the guy pushes the 993 out on the market for $100K in Argentina, how fast do you think will it sell? Just curious.
