Default modern audio equipment in the 964 cab

howdy 964 lovelies , will modern audio equipment be a serious threat to a 964 electrics , im not wanting to go crazy with power but something good, do i need to worry about frying the original wires or is it useful to completely start fresh ... sorry if this is confusing , im concerned as i read here that even uprating the headlamps with out relays can be tragic for overloading wires ......

If you replace the amp under the seat ( I suggest this) run a new power line and you could use the old speaker wire but I ran all new when I re did my door speakers and deck.
My head unit does not look as stream lined as a lot of the decks guys use here but I liked the options and the cyber look of the Blaupunkt Hamburg unit. -D²

+1 Good advice.

A new properly sized and fused power cable direct to the battery will avoid any impact on the 964's system. You may want to add a capacitor, depending on how big an amp you want.

OEM speakers, amp and wiring are all pitiful by today's standards, and were not even consistent with 964 quality when it was new, IMO.

+1 Yes the in line fuse for the amp is a must. Forgot to mention that. I only put in a Rockford Amp but not powerful enough to need the battery boost or such, just to clean the music up.
the wiring I pulled out was well yes not the quality I expected but then again the sound system is not why you buy a 964.

PS, you will need to rerun wiring from the head unit to the amp as well, the cable connecting the stock Head unit to the amp is kinda proprietary to Blaupunkt. -D²

Most of the new digital amps will not put a big pull on your electrical system, I really like my JL XD700/5.

quick tip .. not electrics but related to audio upgrade ...

make sure you mount the front speakers into the fixed door steel (there are already predrilled holes).

dont screw the speakers into the floppy door card like the OEM install.

makes a huge difference to sound quality.

I did not try. The previous owner already installed an amp in the boot so I just replaced it with a more modern lightweight digital amp. Most of these new amps are very small and I bet a lot of them would fit.

Yes , my amp fit nicely under the passenger seat once I pulled out the old cell phone transceiver and rearranged the modules under there. -D²
