Any recommendations for a installer/tuner in Northern California? An overhaul is in the foreseeable future and would like to get the whole job done at that time.

Thanks Bill, thanks Geoffrey. Rochester is only 2.5 hours away. Not too far away at all.

Its a shame there are only people on the east coast and in the UK doing this. It would be nice if there was someone close by to do this for us on the west coast.

What is it that you are looking to do? One of the best shops in the South Bay is Jerry Woods Enterprises. They will do the MOTeC, and other high end stuff. SCarGo up in Santa Rosa (?) is another highly recommended shop.

When I do get to the point of an overhaul I am interested in horsepower levels above 300. Have thought about going the 3.8 route but that may be prohibitive cost wise. My thoughts right now are that better breathing and an engine management to reach a higher state of tune are a better way to go. I looks like Colin has gotten very good results from Motec without going the big bore route. Trying to decide what the best route to take before hand.

It has been my experience that we can build a better 3.6l engine with custom pistons and stock cylinders than using 3.8l RS pistons. It certainly is more cost effective with a better return on investment.

Recently I worked on a project that was 3.8l RS pistons, 9M USA sport 2 camshaft, modified stock 964 heads, fabspeed exhaust and it produced 10whp less than a similar engine with 3.6l 9M pistons.

Geoffrey will no doubt confirm USA installed prices, but as a guide the complete 9m Motec installation (consisting of new M84 ecu, custom made adapter loom, Lambda sensor, Injectors, air intake, AT & MAP sensors) all fitted, mapped & dyno'd would be around £4000+VAT.
Am I missing something or are you saying you can convert to EFI for £4kk+ Vat?

Wouldn`t you need a 3.2 manifold, fuel rails and throttle body, not to mention crank sensor, LWFWm, portedt heads etc to do it properly?

The 964 is already fuel injected so all fuel rails, injectors, and sensors are used. The plastic 964 intake is actually a better piece than the 3.2 Carrera manifold.

The difference is that you have a 964 Turbo & my post relates to a stock 964. To convert the 965 to Motec will easily cost double because at a minimum you need fuel rails, new injector blocks, full Motec loom (as opposed to adapter box for 964 Motronic) and a whole bunch of other anciliary stuff.
