WTB: 92-94 C2 w/Tiptronic
Thanks to all who replied with leads and their thoughts. I thought I found the perfect car and had booked flight to go get it. Seller then had a "change of heart" breaking my wife's heart. In any event, I am still looking for a low mileage 92-94 car with all original paint (not red, preferably white).

I'd love to move my '73 1/2 zero-rust-from-day-one coupe with real RS flares (yes, it's but a bare shell at the moment). Best I've been seriously offered is ~$5K. Friend has a similar zero-rust '74 coupe that's disassembled as it was going to be a wheel-to-wheel car circa 1995. Zero interest. He's likely going to sell it as another unloved car has popped up to better suit his race car plans--a '76 930 shell that's virgin. Probably picking that up for ~$3K.
It's confusing meshing the difficulties you describe and a price range starting for '73's in Hemmings at $25k (-except for the point your's are shells.)
And a 964's range, in similar condition, would do equal or better?
For an Apples-to-apples comparison, I would've thought a '73 would out-bid it's comparative 'equal' condition 964.
But I've been wrong before.
