Considering Selling the 964
I've had my 964 for over 13 years, but have not driven it much in the past 5 years since getting the 993 Turbo S. I bought it in 97 with about 60k miles and put almost 50k on it through 2005. Since then, I have probably driven it 200 miles a year. It has about 109k on it now, and has been sitting on a lift above the Turbo S for the past 5 years, coming out only for the occasional exercise or maintenance.
I put a lot of work into this car over time making it far better than it was the day I bought it. It is completely orginal aside from a few, in my opinion ideal, upgrades:
1) I put in the CDR-210 CD player from the 993. This is the ideal radio for the 964: it looks period-correct, is a factory Porsche radio, matches the interior perfectly, and works great.
2) I put in a secondary muffler bypass tube. This is a common modification on the 964. It makes the car sound great and weigh less in the back. The stock tip is on the car, so the appearance is 100% stock. I also have the original muffler if you want a quiet car. I love the sound, but at full throttle, it can scare the the neighbors.
3) I lowered the car and significantly stiffened up the suspension with H&R sport springs over Bilstein shocks. The ride height is ideal. The car looks about the height of the European RS. The work was done by Protosport in NJ. The car handles 10x as well as it did with the stock suspension and height.
4) While I still have the original wheels and would include them in a sale, I put on a set of factory Cup wheels from a later 964. I think they are much more attractive than the original wheels, but to each his own.
The paint and interior of the car shows like the car has 30k miles or fewer. You have to see it to believe it. The leather is like new. The carpet, dash, etc., are all great.
There are no dings at all. There are a few small blemishes and one scratch. There are a number of small rock chips on the hood.
The Carfax is 100% clean, but I did have one minor incident that was not reported to Carfax. As a result of that incident, I replaced the left front fender. It was done in 1999 by Bodymotion in NJ. We put a new fender on rather than taking the dent out of the old one. I also replaced the front bumper at that time with a new factory bumper.
I'm selling because 1) I do not drive it, and 2) I am taking delivery today of a new BMW 335xi. While I'm getting the BMW as a commuting car, it makes the 964 even more redundant than it already was, so the chance that I'll ever increase my use of it is very low. Plus, I could use the garage space.
I'm not 100% sure I am selling, but am clearly considering it. I thought I'd put it out here first to see if there is any interest. I'm also curious to hear if anyone has a suggestion for where I could put it on consignment in Northern NJ. My current thinking is that I want to put no effort into a sale. This is about the max I want to do aside from driving it to a consignment location.
Here are some pics. I know I'll need to take more if I really want to sell it, but it is currently up on the lift. Next time it is down, I plan to take some more. I think I can get 20k, but have not put a lot of effort into seeing if that is reasonable.

Ohhhhh, a nice one!
You could list it at $18K, and then we could tell you you're way too low,
and then you could raise it to $22K, and then we'll tell you you're too high,
so then you could lower it back down to $20K...
sorry, j/k, seen some funny "For Sale" threads lately
$20K = very fair price, IMHO
GLWS if you decide to sell!

When was the last time the valves were adjusted? Same goes for the rotors and pads? Might help to tell people what they WONT have to spend money on in the short run. Looks pretty clean and straight.

Okay, I know it has only been 3 hours, but I already am thinking that I will not have the patience to sell this myself. I suspect that I'll spend hours and hours answering a lot of question, taking the car for a PPI, etc. I know that I'll get 10 tire kickers for every one real potential buyer.
So I guess I'll reinterate my question about consignment: does anyone have a good idea about where I could put the car up for sale? I know I'll lose like 5k if I go that route, but the thought of acting as a used car salesman is already getting to me.
As for the brakes and valves; it has probably been about 5 years and 5k miles since each, but I'd have to get out the records to be sure. I'm operating from memory here. All of my records are somewhere in my basement.
As you can all tell, this was not a well thought out plan.

Is it insured?
Maybe just leave in the Walmart lot with the keys on the visor?
That would be relatively easy.
Sorry, there were two questions in here, I'll try to reword it.

European Locators - Dave Maynard. Meet him once , seemed very knowledgable and genuine. No business dealings with him however. Might be a worthwhile consideration.

Hello. I am in the market and trying to decide if I want a 964 or a 993. I live in West Orange and would love to see the car. You can email me at chris40763@netscape.net.

I replied to all of the PMs; thanks everyone for the interest. I am still working out what I am going to do, but I think it will be a consignment or stay on my lift. I'll post an update if I take any action.

Good eye. It is amazing that I drove it for years to all sorts of places like WalMart and don't have a ding to show for it. As you can see from the pictures, I do generally park very far away, though.
