Thanks for the Video Dirk, I loved that episode with Jackie, I learnt more in those 8 mins about progress movement and allowing the chassis to settle that i ever have.

thanks .. that was interesting to watch!

It's Oulton Park....my local track Anything below 2 mins in a powerful road car is very quick round there and needs a talented driver. So no surprise to see Jackie Stewart go sub 2 min . But for Jackie to get James down to 2:06 within a day, in that car, is quite some going.

Dirk, Thanks!

JS just grows in stature for me with each passing year.

Re brake pads. You can't go past Project Mu street/track pads. They are simply the best pads I have ever used. I have run all Pagid compounds, Porterfields, Hawk and various others and the Project Mu have best initial bite and resistance to fade. Best part is they are also good cold unlike most track pads.

UPDATE ..... After 3 or 4 mths, I hit the track again over the weekend and here is the update ...

Quick refresh ... the last track day was back in Oct 2010 and the best lap time was 1.35.

Mods since the last track day are:
- JIC Cross coilovers (incl ride height & wheel alignment)
- OZ Alleggerita 18" wheels
- Kuhmo Ecsta XS tyres
- Pagid RS-29 brake pads
- OMP 997 RSR steering wheel

RESULT ... fastest lap of the day .. 1.26 .. so a 9 second improvement.

Guess there's probably another 1-2 secs with R-spec tyres and another 2-3 secs with a decent driver.

maybe we are too careful with our 964's (expensive to repair !) factory drivers go all out..
its not their own car and if the team wants faster laps times ... go

p.s. a strutbrace also makes some difference , especially the ones you can stress

Well done on the improvement and I see you did some sensible mods to make the car much better set up on the track.
I found my 964 totally stock was pretty damn slow as you just couldn't get rid of the understeer and cornering speed was pretty slow.
Even driving it flat, it was doing poor times. A month or so later with some suspension and decent alignment the car was transormed and I also dropped about 6-8 secs a lap at each track.

So, if Cam saw you, you were obviously in Oz, which track were you flinging the 911 around?
BTW, when you go R-Spec, you can't get better than the Dunlop Dz03-G.
Bck to back testing in both motor magazine and other independant tests as well as all the top drivers in Porsche Club Vic.
I highly recommend you get M compound front and R compound rear.....
Run them at 32 PSI HOT on a 17" rim.

Did they corner weight your 964 when they fitted the coilovers?

Thanks for the tips

I took the cheaper option and skipped the corner weight balance to save a few dollars. I'm not ultra serious on the track, it's just a bit of fun.

I also assumed that if you tweak the corner heights to adjust the corner weight balance, then the downside is that the heights vary. .... ie
- corner weights balanced but ride heights different
- ride heights perfect but corners weights different

Everyone seems to go for the weight balanced approach so I guess it must be better, but I went for the perfect ride height plan.

You shoudln't really be able to notice the differences in ride height after corner weighting. It is definately worth doing.
