Default 964 Wing Question

Hello,

I have been scoping out 964s recently. I've had 911s and a 996 in the past.

I used to have a Carrera spoiler on my 83 911 (not the turbo) and liked the look of this (I know, some hate wings).

I believe it the "Turbo S" wing that I like for the 964, as it seems similar to the Carrera tail.

Are there any descent aftermarket options out there?

Does the Turbo S tail not look appropriate without the rest of whatever effects that may have come with the Turbos (opinion based)? Was a Turbo S tail an option for normally aspirated 964s?

Thanks,
Todd

OK, there are 2 types of Turbo S wing for the 964, the one from the 3.3 Turbo S and the one from the 3.6 Turbo S (Flatnose). I have the 3.6 version (black car below) but I think the 3.3 version is the one you are meaning (Yellow one). I got mine from Better Bodies (no affiliation etc) and the fit was good, the instructions easy to understand and the finish came out better than expected for what was after all a $500 GRP part so I was really happy with it.

On the Better Bodies website I think the one you mean is called the RS America wing (mine is the 930 Flatnose) but the RS America one from Better Bodies is all painted and doesn't have the rubber edge which I thought the genuine RS America tail one does. If you compare it to the pics of the yellow car below they appear to be the same and the picture shows a 3.3 Turbo S but it might be worth giving them a call and asking. I spoke to them several times when ordering my wing and they were always really helpful.

Todd -

Here is my car with a Carbon Fiber RSA replica tail (built by MAShaw). The RSA tail is essentially identical to the old Carrera tail, save for the decklid opening size/shape, and the cutout for the rear windshield wiper. The CF replica saves weight over both the original tail and the motorized 964 tail, and gets rid of the rubber lip (which looks great IMO). To me, it looks better than any of the turbo tails, at least on a narrow body.

Chase,
Holly cow that looks awesome (^^^^^^^^^).
I agree, that tail looks fantastic on a narrow body. After seeing pictures of your car, you really need to change the picture at the bottom of your posts; put the 964 in front of the E30 so we can see the tail!

Todd,
Ducks look good on certain 964s also.

Thanks all. They all look good!

I'm looking at a convertible. Does that make a difference? Or same fit for deck lid?

Thanks,
Todd

Todd - same fit for the 'verts. I think an RSA tail would look perfect on the right 964 cab.

Kev - I love your mirrors. How did you color match the paint when filling the former mirror mounting holes in the door?

Thanks Udo!

I agree, maybe I'll change it up here soon. I'm in VA for the weekend and only brought my iPad, so I'll have to wait till I get back home on Monday to edit the photo some. My current pic is from back in my point 'n shoot days, so it needs some updating anyways...

Chase, i was painting the whole car so had the Ruf mirrors fitted at the same time and the original holes blanked off. They look great and would be even better if you could see out of them
