Default Question - right engine number?

Hi,

I have an engine number from a car and it is supposed to be a cup engine.
But I can't find the same number series in the books I have. Can anyone confirm the number?

62M20030**

It's the fourth digit (2) I don't understand. The number 30 would fit within the 120 M-series car that was built.

Cheers,

Thomas

Hmmm, checked my rather limited sources & no luck.

I wonder if anyone on here has access to the "15 Years of RS" book, which might assist ?

("15 Years" book appears as a sticky on the Porsche Club GB 964RS forum; you don't have to be a paying member to access the forum).

Good luck ....

I bump this one. Doesn't anyone know how to verify/read the engine number above? How can you tell the difference between a Row and a cup enigne from the engine number? If I look in my books the numbers look the same, starting with 62M00001-

Ok, got an confirmation now from people on the Porsche Club GB's forum. And yes, it should be a Cup engine so that was good news.

Thanks for the tip Geordie!

The engine type for a Cup car is M64/03 stamped in the case. If it doesn't have this, it isn't a Cup engine case.

Aha, OK I think it said /03 but I'll double check.
