Default Left stranded again!

Argh! For twice in as many weeks I've been left stranded!

Went to visit some friends out of town and the clutch slave cylinder popped or something.

$150 tow job later I just had them leave the car outside the shop even though it won't be open for over 24hrs.

I've decided the car is no longer appropriate to transport my pregnant wife. We need reliable transport!

Sorry to hear and agree you and your wife need more reliable transportation due to your current situation (congrats, btw). BUT...look at your avatar..holy moly. Beautiful.

Sorry to hear that the 911 has been giving you problems. Keep the 964 and buy a cheap Dodge caravan for you’re (wife) soon to be soccer mom . Caravans are great mom vans, pretty reliable and super inexpensive to buy and fix. Mine sports one everyday and she loves it.

We've got the other car handled...a new Audi Q5. It's more just the frustration that I'm not comfortable enjoying the 964 with her. The Porsche was for weekend drives and whatnot and it's being a PITA.

What I really need is to move to a house with a garage (we're in a condo downtown) so I can tinker with it when I have time instead of having to tow it to the shop all the time.

I understand about the garage, I pay a premium here at my place to have one, but I won't go with out a garage and a porsche. I like doing my own work. Just did my own trany service yesterday on my Tiptronic, saved over $350 from what the shop wanted. -D²

You are right, I think if you had the house with a garage and possibly a lift, you'd feel more comfortable with the car. Being able to tinker with it is more than half the fun of ownership.

OK, OK, I'll take it off your hands. I'll even come up from Texas to pick it up. How much?

(I had that feeling of needing a more reliable car for the first 2 years of owning mine. Finally got it sorted out though - it can take longer when you do it yourself instead of taking it to a professional - and now I thoroughly enjoy it!)

I agree with your statement, I don´t consider my 964 a reliable mean of transportation, I am frequently finding something else has broke or starting to malfunction.
Don´t get me wrong, I love my Porsche and wouldn´t dream of selling it but my daily driver (a 2006 Peugeot 307 that I am about to change for a VW Jetta) goes to the shop only once a year for oil change and service and my 964 is at the shop nearly every month, (sometimes for small stuff) but always something needs to be taken care off.

I'm on the same page as everyone here.

LOVE the car. Just coming to terms with the fact it's almost a classic which means using it in a certain way.

Maybe they'll take it as the down on a new 997 (just kidding;-)

Well you've got the Q5 for hauling the precious cargo. When my wife was pregnant, we did a few road trips with no problems. Now she drives the little SUV for the convenience and nice view.
In my opinion, year one=no baby in car. Escape use only.
Year two=forward facing car seat, baby in car,fun for a few trips.
Year three=still waiting for the booster seat so that my wife and son can travel with me. On the plus side, I am getting a lot of track days in!

Geez.. how's that any better? Audi's are not what I consider reliable at all.. (I learned the hard way with the most beautiful A6 but under the hood was a piece of sh...). Just kidding... just get your AMA card ready.

Funny you should say that. In Canada it's the CAA and I was informed I've had my 4 service calls for the year! They counted the tow truck to get the car out of our underground parking and the flatbed to get it to the shop as 2 calls! Brutal.

Found out today...clutch hydraulic hose failed...$500. Car's fixed...I just need to find the time to pick it up.

As for the Audi...really love the car. So smooth.

My second car is a 1982 volvo stationwagon with 300k miles. Strangely reliable, and I care less about dents, scratches, spills, or running into anything I don't like. And I can get more in the back than in some trucks.

Sorry to hear you've been stranded. Maybe I'm the exception but I wouldn't hesitate to take my 964's on long trips. In my 18 years of ownership, I've only been stranded once and that was due to a faulty DME relay. I now keep a spare in both cars.
