964RS Steering wheel? Or is it?

Clarification:
The steering wheel part number end "(10VERL)", such as in 944.347.084.09 (10VERL)
Means that the same wheel has a part number ending in 09 if it has the std hub and in 10 if it has the longer hub with extension. The wheel itself would be the same but the hub (that is riveted to the wheel) is different.
"Verl" is short for verlängert, which means extended.

I bought my 964 with an aftermarket wheel. A fellow 964 owner loaned me his original wheel. It was 01 VERL.
When I found a wheel off a 928 it had the same part number except it was 02 VERL. Does that mean there should be a difference in height?

Again, Having (VERL) stamped on the wheel does not mean it has an extended hub. It is stamped on every wheel that could have had an extended hub.
Hub extension is rather obvious to see:

So that's what VERL means. There's a good one for Porsche trivia night.
This old thread suggests that both 944 and 928 part numbers were used- https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...valuation.html
The Classic9 recover page suggests that the 944 version was 363mm and the 928 was 361mm. http://www.classic9leathershop.com/i...t_version=true
I would be curious if there is any difference in the thickness. My 944 version certainly isn't very thick. Otherwise, why two different part numbers?

From my recollection, I don't think so. I think the hub surface for the "standard" wheels isn't drilled to accept the lugs/screws to attach the factory hub extension. Also, I don't think you'd be able to tighten the nut that secures the wheel onto the steering shaft without drilling out the center of the "standard" wheel. My description is definitely not the technical response, but I can try and get pictures up later this week. Car is in the shop for some maintenance, and I've currently got the extended hub version on the car. This is for two 363mm VERL wheels.
