Default 964RS Magnesium Wheel Maintenance

Hello 964 experts

I understand that magnesium wheels, especially older ones, are very prone to corrosion.

I noticed a chip on my wheel the size of a pencil eraser head (pic below).

Is this something I need to tend to ASAP so the affected area doesn't corrode or possibly get bigger?

Thx in advance
Karim

Magnesium is a great material but is prone to corrosion. From the looks of it that chip has been there for a while. Corrosion has already set in and can be a problem. At a min you need to inspect these regularly just like the engine fan. If any exposed material is observed at a minimum sand it a little and touch it up ASAP. You can already see the material breaking down. The small deep dark area is not good and is breaking the material down to the dendritic level. I would have this taken care of ASAP or the wheel will become worthless.
