Try cleaning your ISV. A search for "ISV" will yield lots of threads with information.

What he said. I was having the same problem, popped my ISV off about a week ago and doused it in throttle body cleaner. Idle is terrific now.

What they ^ said. If that doesn't solve the idle problem, check for vacuum leaks.

Beyond ISV cleaning and checking for vacuum leaks, make sure your ignition system is in top shape: this means plugs, plug wires, caps & rotors.

O2 sensor gets missed a lot. May want to check/change that too.

I read a thread about the belts , does this affect the idle?

You're probably referring to the distributor belt (the primary belt is connected to the secondary distributor by a small, rubber belt... they have been known to deteriorate and break). While the car will run on one distributor if the belt breaks, it might not run long and catastrophic engine damage can result. You should check that (a) the belt is intact (see thread) and, (b) that the distributor vent kit has been installed.

I don't think running on one distributor will affect the idle noticeably, but I could be wrong. Big rule of fixing things: Consider the simple things first.
