porsche 964 cab - child seat for rear seat with lap belt
Hi all
I have a 15months old and want to go out in the car with him and the wife.
Does anyone know if you can get a childs seat for the back of a 964 cabriolet which works with the 2 point lap belt?
regards lee

The problem with using a 2 pt belt in a 964/993 for a car seat is that you will have a difficult time tightening the seat down, especially as the female side of the belt may be too high. You can install lap belt mounts and use a car seat with LATCH system mounts as they will be much more secure and more easily adjusted. You can also remove the upper seat back as it will allow the car seat to sit further back.

You can add lap belts that pull down securely on the car seat.
It'll still be just a lap belt on the cab, but definitely better than the standard "tall" female belt coupler on the car.

Hi Lee,
I looked into this a couple of years back, as I wanted to do the same in my 964 cab. My research seemed to suggest very strongly that you couldn't get a satisfactory, secure fit of any car seat (whether front or rear facing) using the lap belt. After all, you will be carrying your most precious belongings in that car seat!
I did look into (and am still meaning to get this done) having three point belts retrofitted. There is a company in North London who specialise in this - Quickfit SBS (Safety Belts Service) - nothing to do with Kwikfit ...

They are specialists (apparently) in exactly this sort of thing. Their install uses strengthening plates which are welded to the inside of the engine bay for securing the upper mounts. The cost they quoted me qas surprisingly good value - around £300 per side if I remember rightly. Would take a day to do both sides I believe.
This is definitely something I will get done, hopefully this summer. There are plenty of seats that will physically fit (again, Quickfit SBS can help on this). I have found them very helpful, and certainly worth a call whichever route you go.
Best of luck with it. Let us know what you decide.
Best regards,
Jeremy.
