Jaime, I did my rack (my post is referenced at the top) and I learned a lot. I think I have reacted to others on this subject. One big hint, if you take out your rack, do NOT pull apart the slip joint in the steering column. Undue the rack inside the footwell below the lowest u-joint. You'll never get the slipjoint back together again. its a nightmare. I can tell you more if you want. drop me a note.

The 4 rack bolts should not be re used. Get replacements. Believe they are grade M8. A slide hammer will help to separate the u-joint under the dash. If you take careful measurements before dis-assembly, you will be able to set the toe the same, and won't need an alignment. Make sure that your front wheels and steering wheel are pointing perfectly straight, before you put the union back together.

I'm using Penzoil Dextron IV in my cars. I've not had any problems with it. The owner's manual says to use Dextron III but its is not readily available. I suspect its been superseded by the Dextron IV.

hummmm... I used dextron this morning since it was all I had and I needed to drive the car... maybe I am confusing the cars... you are correct, Pentosin is for the 996TT... great! Now I have ordered quart of Pentosin that will sit in the garage for a long long long time... remind me to hand it over the next time I see you Jim.

I have the same issue - but have looked into getting the seal kit to do a rack rebuild myself - But can't find any info on rebuilding the rack - Has anyone rebuilt the rack vs just doing the replacement -
I am in the process of installing new front A bushings, bumps steer mod and steering limit nuts ; when I noticed the leak on the right side - looks like only the right inside seal is leaking. Looking for info on rack rebuild.

Cool

Well... got some help to work the car...

Here is Daniel turning the wheel while I check the front brakes for locking...

And since I am working on the steering rack boots, why not remove the covers to check the binding on the shifter (I think it is the engine mounts, but wanted to check the bushings anyway...)

Not something we planned... but look at how we are both dressed... sperry shoes, shorts, and t-shirt... hahahahahaha

It is likely that a lot of you might already have this tool... but I did not, got it while working on the FIAT. I got to tell you, the best 19.00 I have spent...

Note to self - clean all this cosmoline before mounting everything back...

New boot in place

Starting to clean and getting it ready to replace the bushings

All done as far as steering rack boots and bushings... on to continue to figure out the locking of the brakes.

Awesome work.

My daughter does not work on mine, but she keeps asking when we can drive it. Unfortunately in many pieces right now.
