Default 930 or 964?

I have a certain amount to spend and in the UK the 964 and 930 911's are similar prices. Obviously the better the condition, the more expensive.

I love the look of both of them so I was hoping for some advice as to which one to go for. Is there anyone who has owned both? Any advice or experiences would be great to hear.

Thanks

do you mean with 930 the turbo ? if you start with a first 911 I would go for a normal aspirated 964 or 993... a 930 will probably kill you !

sorry by 930 I just mean a 911 before 1989. What is the number for that, is it just pre-98 911?

also 993 in the UK have crazy price tags attached to and although I would love one I can't bring myself to pay the inflated price (more than double a similar 964)

before 1989 911SC , 930 was the USA name for the turbo 911.
993's are indeed overpriced, mainly because there are not many made,

If both are of a similar price for a given condition I'd tend to go for a 964. More modern suspension, a fair bit more forgiving in handling characteristics, easier (for most) to use manual transmission etc.

Both are fine cars when properly maintained.

Of course I am biased in my opinion

Just shy of twice as many 993s made and sold as the 964. 964 is rarer

i thought that was the case. The 964 was sold into the 90's global recession. Lets hope we dont get another one of those....

I think you will have to drive both to know the clear answer. The 964 is more modern and the 3.2 liter 911s is more raw.

i'd love to try both but i don't like the idea of being a test pilot of someones pride and Joy!

I think I've settled on a 964. 92, Black, biscuit leather, cup 1 alloys.

Done!

Right who wants to sell me one in the UK?!

bear in mind you are posting in a 964 forum, you will probably get biased opinions, there is a 911 turbo forum you should probably ask the same question there and see what responses you get.

930 > 964 > 911

The 964 has the 3.6 engine which all 911 owners want as an upgrade. That along with slightly bit better HVAC and you have the reason why 964>911. Now that is a diver perspective. From a collector perspective, it's the other way around.

As for the 930, the hairy-ness image and flares beat them all!!!

I originally thought 930 was the name for the pre 89 911 as I said at the top. A Turbo is quite a lot more than a 964 in the UK especially for one that's not a heap!

What is HVAC?
