Against all to up to now published "knowledge" a works build up 964 TURBO convertible really do exist!
However, base is a Carrera 2 Turbo-Look Cabriolet, equipped in the works with the M30 / 69 3.3 litres Turbo engine and the G50 / 52 gearbox of the Turbo. It is one of the rare 964 651 delivered for the UK market!
So are you saying this is a Porsche factory (works) 964 turbo cabriolet? Or a wide body 964 Carrera 2 cab with a turbo motor added after the car left the production line?
I know Porsche did a small run of 993 turbo cabs using the narrow body and 3.6L single turbo motor (360bhp) but never heard about a 964 turbo cabriolet.
I have listed hundreds of Carrera 2 Turbo Look Cabs ( America Roadster ) but this one is the first with the 3,3 Turbo engine from the factory - i think it was fitted after the car left the production line in "WERK 1" ( no prove for that )
What is unique in this case: The optionsticker shows the engine- and gearboxtype of the 3,3 Turbo and the datasheet lists a turboengine and turbogearbox number !
I think this one is a real collectors car and would be well placed in a UK / HongKong Car Auction ...
Adrian addressed this car years go. What i recall was it was sent back to the factory for a conversion and did not leave the factory as a turbo originally.
Is there documentation or vin number info you can share to prove this is a off the production line turbo Cab?
As far as i know it is impossible to recieve a recreated decklidsticker/servicebooksticker from Porsche? The optionsticker of this car shows the engine- and gearboxtype of the 3,3 Turbo and the datasheet lists a turboengine and turbogearbox number!
So i can´t believe this car was delivered as a regular Turbolook Cab with M64 engine and its sticker and the complete datasheet was recreated after sending it back to the factory! But i´m allways happy to learn if there is any prove for that!
I know an other black/black LHD car here in Germany where things are as you stated!
Someone on pistonheads said the same thing as I did, here is the quote.
Car was bought as a Cab. It was then converted by Porsche for the customer to include the 965 3.3 engine. It has special option interior. It is not an 'S' of any type, just a car that had 'Special Wishes' treatment.
This is the same thing Adrian confirmed many years ago. It was purchased as a cab and reworked after being returned to the factory. I have heard of a few cars that have had similar things done.
They also mentioned the 993 turbo cabs which have been confirmed.
So is it a real factory turbo cab? I guess to some degree yes. However it is a reworked cab and did not leave the factory as an all original one off car. It is worth something to someone and is cool but I wouldn't put it high on collectibilty list like the America GS in stock form or his last turbo slope 930 or a turbo S but unique just the same.
There is this link also http://www.performance2and4.co.uk/911spec_3_n.htm which only throws another wrench in the works. If only one of the 4 were supposed to be imported to the UK and the one picture was it then where does this car fit in?
