Default front windshield

I replaced my rear windshield about 2 years ago and now doing my front. I have over 200 k miles and the windshield has many pits which cause poor vision in the direct sunlight.

so here are some pics.
The most work is done removing all the old adhesive. I suspect the shops do a cursory job and just add more. The remover from Germany works well. Use a plastic stick to remove the bulk of the material and the remover on a cloth is used to remove all residue.

Thanks for posting.

Please update with progress. Last time I tried doing my own windshield on a 75 S, back in '88, I had to buy two windshields. But I'm hard to convince and would like to do my C4 myself.

I don't expect any real difficulty. This will be my third one. It just requires patience and correct technique to install. And I keep my toes and fingers crossed.

Is there any difference between the two then Russ, besides the cost of course?

I know the newer glass has a "P" in a triangle on it in the corner if it is Porsche, had to replace one in my previous 02 Boxster, most car manufacturers have their own special mark if OEM.

Notice the spray can says BS Remover, how funny!

Once you had removed the adhesive was there any sign of knife damage in the paint? When I did mine I noticed damage where the headlining had been trimmed. I suspect that this is the cause of some of the rusting problems that people have.

Would you describe the process of reinstallation?

Pete, no marks of any kind, very clean.

JDD
Reinstall is typical for all these types of glass.
Put rope into the rubber channel that will fit into the car,
put the adhesive in the window channel of the rubber,
install the window into the rubber
put adhesive in the car on lip from where you cleaned it off,
lubricate the rubber where it will slide into car with armorall or other conditioner
position assembly onto car
loop antenna wire into car
with slight pressure on outside of glass, more to keep window in rubber than to push window into car, start pulling rope ends to pull rubber onto lip
take care near antenna wire
wipe off any excess adhesive in car
come back and add adhesive from outside between window and rubber, and between rubber and car.
Clean off any excess adhesive/sealant.

have to attempt this as well in the near future to address the old rust at the bottom of pillar issue. I take it the original rubber surrounding windscreen has to be destroyed cut to get the glass out ?
