so I wonder if maybe the PTX might be a better choice than SHC for brass syncros?

Have you done any cold weather driving with it?

FWIW I just checked with my mechanic at the dealer who confirmed that they will use Mobilube PTX 75-90 during my big 80.000 km service tomorrow.

This year my mechanic changed out tran fluid to swepco, now its getting notchy too!hard to shift or downshift from second to first. Also i have noticed a lack in performance from 4000 and up.It used to really pull hard after 4 grand, now its kind of delayed about 5000.My mechanic said my clutch felt heavy this spring at time of the cars tuneup! So my question is my clutch slipping at higher rpm!If i replace the clutch what should i get.I want only the best!

Just an update...

With regular neighborhood store bought Mobil 1 gear lube I had the 1st-2nd gear crunch when the air temperature and transmission were both cold. After a few minutes of running the problem would go away. I now run Mobilube SHC and over the past few weeks we've had cold weather but I've no problems with crunching so I'm sticking with SHC or the equivalent from now on.

Several people have reported experiencing shifting problems when using SHC. Those problems subsequently went away with the dealer sourced Mobilube PTX. I'm still not 100% happy either (rough shifting when cold) with SHC and will drain it out for PTX this winter.

My experience is ,that when I used synthetic gear oil on my '89 944 I had good results ( 100.000 miles notchy 1st and 2nd ) It solved the problem, however thinking the same would work for my 964 1990, I did change the oil and replaced it with synthetic oil,, it did not work out the same .
It is still notchy 1st and 2nd , of course they are the gears used all the time.
So after this info I am changing my tranny oil with good old smelly stuff, and lets not forget we could all have some worn synchro's.
Thanks for this important oil change !

I was going to get this changed and my garage suggested Redline MTL and said we could go with something thinner like 75-80 if 75-90 didn't do the trick. They did not stock the SHC (delvac). So I could try the Redline and if that didn't work go to the SCH LT. Thoughts? So far I just have the difficulty going from 2nd to 1st, with just a bit of notchy feel from first to second.

Thumbs up

Just put some of that Delvac 75-90 in mine (a few weeks ago). What came out was bluish-green stuff.
Anyway, I'm pleased. Very. (bought through Luftechnik)

Though I've never had notchiness issues. Granted, air-cooled porsches I'm used to have never been 'snik-snik' shifters, anyway. (More like the 'sniiiiiiiik-THUNK...... sniiiiiiiiiiiik-THWOT'-kind.

Wait for the racers around here, though. My word isn't as robust as theirs.
