MAF opinions
Hi guys,
I'm thinking of putting an offer on this MAF induction kit...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_500wt_1182.
My knowledge on these systems is pretty weak and the forum posts I've read are pretty mixed. According to the Streathers manual the DME has to be altered to use this sensor and its use is advised on highly modified engines, where the injection system has been improved to deal with restrictions regarding its air/fuel combustion capabilities.
Can anybody add to this and is it a worthwhile standalone purchase (as far as i can see its a no)?

Forget the aftermarket MAF. You will get a MAF and chip which is no where near optimized to you specific motor configuration. Instead, get the MoTec +1 kit from Goeffrey Ring or 9Meister. The Motec engine management is more flexible and you can eliminate the restrictive AFM or MAF all together. The installation is easy and much less restriction on the induction system. Their kit allows you to use the stock wiring harness so you can always remove the system if you decide to sell the car.
With the MoTec system you can better optimize the ignition timing giving you the most power. If you decide down the road the go with a VRAM or ITB's its no problem with Motec. I am in the process of installing this on my car and I will let the board know how it turns out. Call Geoffrey, I am sure he can give you excellent advice.
Thanks Mark Masotto

The aftermarket MAF helps a little - if it alone is installed - It helps to have a chip developed with 911chips (Steve Wong). While the MAF I ran came with a chip which I did not use - I already had several chips that worked very well with the MAF. I ran the MAF with no CAT, NO Primary muffler and a Cone K&N air filter and custom intake pipe. I had significant HP improvement on the dyno and you could feel it in the seat - While not anywhere near what you can obtain with a MOTEC from Geoffrey - the MAF is much easier to install and set up and is almost a plug and play. The MOTEC will take time to set up and get it tuned correctly for your car. If you are interested in a full ECU, that allows you to adjust the ECU to your specific car conversion send me a PM.

TBH a Steve Wong chip is on the cards this month anyway (either that and/or some infinity kappa speakers), the problem arises if it has to be a custom chip requiring dyno time, as I'm England, unless the data can be utilised from a UK dyno (not sure how big this data may be?).
Yes send pics and any info you may have... I'm always interested in feeding my addiction
my 964 also has a decat pipe and a cup pipe, so this should add to the benefits!
I'm not quite sure I understand the Motec system just yet (though give me a bit of research time and I will), though a trip 9m would do the trick.
Thanks for the opinions, its all very helpful!
Does tweeking your 964 ever stop ?

Here is a link to the MAF system that I have here on the RENN DIY sight - This should give you all the info you need - The only difference that I have on my system is that I have installed a quick chip changer - that allows you to change the chips in the ECU from the outside and not have to split the ECU case - but to install the first time -

What is the role of the chip included, does it convert the new MAF data in place of the AFM data to something readable in the DME?
Can you still run a Wong Chip with this?
Go for the Infinity Kappa Perfect components for the doors! I did. You won't regret it.

I wont be buying form the above site (no affiliation) as they do not ship to the uk, so I will be sourcing form elsewhere.
What stereo/amp you running?

Here is a pic of the quick chip changer. The chip in the picture is in the installed position. All you have to do to remove is lift the little silver lever in the upper left part of the box and it releases the chip to be removed, then you can drop a new chip in and press the lever back down locking the chip into position. Then close the lid on the black plastic box. I used vlcro to hold into position. The ribbon cable goes into the ECU and has a chip like connection that plugs into the chip socket. The ribbon cable is 18 inches long so you can mount the changer in a accessible area behind or in front of the driver seat. If you have any questions let me know
