Default Fan bearing advice.....

Hi guys im going to install my new fan bearing today, i bought a shop press a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone have advice on how to best line up the screw holes in the bearing hub with the holes in the fan. I think if its off i wont be able to rotate the hub because its a tight fit.

Take a 2" long 6mm bolt, cut the head off and make a stud. Thread it into one of the bearing's bolt holes. Use that stud to act as an alignment pin as you are pressing on the bearing. In my case, I had three studs available. I used all three.

Once aligned, I use long socket-head bolts & washers to draw the bearing into the bore.

Default Old Thread, new question.

I helped a friend disassemble his fan/shroud/alternator assembly last night in pursuit of a noisy bearing.

Has anyone ever just drilled out the c-clip and replaced the sealed bearing ($18) and c-clip ($0.0003) in the fan hub?
The whole press-the-$150-fan-bearing-hub-off-on process seems absurd in the pursuit of a bad $18 bearing.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, not trying to threadjack, but wanted to ask a related question.

Can the engine cooling fan be replaced while the engine is still in the car?

won't pressing on the bearing with that bolt screwed in ruin the threads on the bearing?

Negative. The studs help clock the bearing and fan so that when you press it on, it will align the holes.
