Monday Merriment- and quest for cars

I found an interesting "feature" of the turbo over the weekend. I already knew that the fuel level sensor only goes down to about 1/4 tank and the computer "guesses" the level between 1/4 tank and empty. On Sat morning, I cleared the stored fault codes in the car with Durametric (it always comes back from the mechanics with faults stored, due to them unplugging things I think). When I tried to go out later, fuel warning came on immediately I started the car - fuel gauge didn't even move from the bottom. Miles remaining counted down 1 mile per second until it showed dashes.
When I filled up, all was fine. I eventually realised - clearing the fault codes obviously clears more than just the logged faults - it must be some kind of memory reset, which included where the information for the fuel level "guess" was being stored. Hence when I wiped that, it started guessing no fuel. Quality stuff - sack the engineer who came up with that design!
Apart from that - nothing on the 964. I need to try to get to the alternator guy this week to confirm he'll be able to fix it - assuming he can I may try to remove it at the weekend. It's odd - I'm sure it's been broken for a while and I've been driving it quite ignorant. But now I know the alternator is broken I suddenly don't want to drive it at all.

At first I was just amazed at a full tank only lasting less than a 100 miles... then learned to control the gas pedal.

Be aware.....I do not know if they all behave the same, but when Munchy was a pup, he really liked to chew on things....the legs of the chairs of our dinette sets, some wicker chairs...he even managed to chew through a couple hundred bucks worth of cables behind my home theater equipment!
But he is a wonderful dog and is great with kids.

Good time. Good hiking. Good food. Saw only one Pcar. Can't wait to get behind the wheel of the C4. After some sleep.
