Is there a DIY somewhere for a/c removal?

I did this last winter and removed all but the evaporator behind the fuel tank. When the system is empty it's pretty straight forward. Start at the front and just remove everything you see. In the left front wheel house you see everything easily. Then you need to remove the left side skirt to acess the pipes going to the rear of the car. Just take your time and there will be no problems at all. No special tools are needed. The only issue is of you want to remove the big bracket which holds the compressor. To get it out you need to remove the crank pulley. When it's out you can either get the non a/c bracket or cut the one you have in the same way. I cut mine and did it well, so now it looks like the factory piece. It's easy to see the casting where you should cut it. But as said, if you can live with the big bracket sitting there, removing the rest of parts is easy.

I just cut my casting too... Thomas is right - it is easy to see where to cut.

Hey guys, just for my curiosity can you explain why you have to cut the aircon bracket? Does part of it need to be there for some other function not related to supporting the compressor?

Yes, it's main function is to work as a bracket for the engine carrier so you still need the lower part of it.

It is much easier to cut that bracket than to make pieces to replace the space.
