Front Bonnet release

Front Bonnet release
Hi I've just gone to clear my bonnet out of junk to send my car out for an MOT.
The interior handle has gone loose as if the bonnet is already released.
I think the cable may have gone!
Typical! how do I open it and do you think if I can't it would still pass a MOT?
THANKS!

Won't pass MoT as, for starters, they won't be able to inspect the spare tyre, I expect. Give them a call first to check though.
Depending on your car's year, I seem to remember there's an emergency pull-wire to release the lid inside one of the front wheelarches behind the liner, but not in the earliest cars. On a RHD, I would expect that would be the right side arch. Otherwise, it's a pain of a job with a probe via one of the holes on the underside.
Unless, of course, the cable has snapped right at the release handle leaving a small stub you might be able to get hold of.

Ive checked the handle and it's still attached that end (unfortunately)
So its at the front where its gone.
Now here comes the fun part... Can't take the front wheels off because the wheel locking nut is in the toolkit in the FRONT.
Gets better.... It's a 1990 model. (01/06/90)
better start probing for holes.

Unfortunately, I don't think that you will find a way to access the locking mechanism from underneath. There is too much stuff in the way.Are you sure that there is no piece of the cable under the dash that you
can grab with a vice-grip?

I have a '92 964 C2 Left hand drive. I just had the wheel liners off on both sides of my car. On mine, if you remove the liner on the left hand side of the car, the one that would give you access to the fan and behind the headlight assembly. In there I found a cable with a loop on the end. This is attached to the release on the hood (bonnet) assembly in the front of the car. If you pull this cable using the loop, it should open the hood. It did on mine, I also had about 6" of slack in the cable, so it was not a short pull. Hope this helps.

Can't find it, but I've a feeling someone on here ended up having to enlarge (considerably) one of the boot floor drain holes to gain access. I'm afraid in an early car, without the emergency release, it's a toughie.

Sorry have not been much help. Will ask around when a few more wake up around here. When you do get it open, you might consider adding a cable and running it out to inside the liner JUST INCASE YOU NEED IT IN THE FUTURE

Might be an idea undoing the cable at the handle end and pulling it past the normal travel of the handle, it might catch further along (the wire loops around a bit at the latch and is attached at a couple of points IIRC)
