Where do I find this switch ?
I was reading the first question here: http://964uk.com/html/FAQs%20-%20Electrics.htm
"What is the purpose of the switch on the driver side of the centre console?"
The answer to the question was: "This feature enables the automatic closing of the windows and sunroof"
I have never seen such a switch ? Can anyone show a pic ?

Little rocker switch with LED on the drivers side footwell column, I may have a pic somewhere, but if you search its been asked a few times before in the years I've been here.

I think the wording in the FAQ is a little misleading in that the switch merely disables the proximity sensors in the alarm such that the windows and/or sunroof can be left ajar without the alarm being activated. The switch does not enable or disable the automatic closing of the windows and/or sunroof - a feature which is not available on a standard 964 anyway.
AFAIK the switch was fitted primarily to cabriolets to allow the alarm to be primed whilst the roof was left open.
Regards
Dave

Targas had these too but actually in the footwell, close ish to the centre console, designed, as Dave says, to disable some alarm proximity sensors when roof is left off.
For my rhd targa this swicth was in left of drivers (i.e. right) footwell, about a foot off the floor and between 6 and 18 inches from centre (from memory as car gone now).

Sure, so when the bird flies over and dumps a load right on your seat, the alarm goes off to let you know to look before seating yourself!

I read this from the '92 Equipment list:
"A choice of two Alarm systems are available. The Ultrasonic and Alarm Vent Switch Upgrade provides further features to the standard alarm system. The Vent Switch allows sunroof/windows/cabriolet hood to be left open whilst maintaining alarm protection. The full feature Alarm System-1 provides a remote control facility. This enables the windows and sunroof (or 911 Cabriolet hood) to be closed, both doors locked and the alarm to be armed with the touch of a button"
I guess the "Ultrasonic and Alarm Vent Switch Upgrade" is a system that will go off if someone is trying to steal anything from your car while the windows or sunroof is down. And this system can obviously be turned on and off with that switch, I guess.
The other system, 'The Alarm System-1' is probably what we were talking about with the automatic closing of windows and sunroof, and obviously controlled from a key-ring remote - or perhaps another key to the car was offered similar to the 996 Cabriolet keys for instance where you can press a button to open/close the hood.
I assume all cars were equipped with alarm system, but these did only go off if you tried to break into the engine compartment, the luggage compartment or the glove compartment.

My car, '91 C4 RHD, has one too. Until this thread popped up I thought it was something a previous owner had added. It feels like a switch from Mercedes, much better quality than our PW switches.

Here are the pics you requested. It may or may not be OE because my car does not use the original key fob and has an aftermarket alarm system. The switch does work on the windows though.
