Does anyone know if these fans are balanced and if it affects bearing life/noise/vibration and if it should be re-balanced after painting/powder coating?

I would go with silver. I'm sure gold or red would like nice as well, but after looking af Anders' picture that is would be my choice! I'm interested to see if anyone can answer the previous questions about how dificult it is to remove the fan. This might be a job for me in the near future.... the result would definitely raise the overall look of the engine....

It's a pretty straight forward job. You will need a 12-TOTH XZN BIT (thats not a torx), I think it is a size M12 but I'm not sure. This tool will go in to the center axle and the you will need a wrench for the nut. When you have removed the nut you will be able to slide the fan right off.

Not sure about the 964 engine but getting the fan off of my Turbo was easy. Hooking the alternator wires back up during re-installation was where the fun began
As for paint affecting fan balance; it might if you paint it with a mop. I've heard those who have theirs powder coated have to remove paint from the tips but that's it.

FYI i painted my fan with high temp silver engine paint and it is almost all flaked off down into the cylinders. I would spend the 100 bucks and have it powder coated. Someone told me that the fans are very porous and paint wont last long on them and mine is a good example of this.

IMHO some parts look blingy when colored some do not.
Mechanical moving parts like the fan or springs do not bling if they are painted red or anther bold color.

Nonvisibly moving parts like mirrors or calipers do look bling when painted. I might be crazy though, I have red calipers.

Jerry, how did you prep your fan before you painted it?
I had mine blasted, primed it with Eastwood primer and painted it with Eastwood paint. It's still holding up well (no flaking or peeling) after two years.

I lightly sanded it and then whiped it down with Acetone. I guess the primer may be the key to longevity.

I had mine painted while I was getting the alternator changed and had the RS pulley done at the same time.
I painted the casing in gloss black and the fan in gloss silver. Both where sand blasted and powder coated.
It looks like it's stock - so I was a little dissapointed. I will repaint it soon in red to get a nice bling bling look.
Go for a colour that stands out - I think big birds purple colour looks the best for bling.
Good luck

Love the silver on the Fan 10 / 10
The cool photo of the engine and car in background (10/10)
For the full 10/10 on all matters - can we know what you have been up to with the engine out - please!

I wonder if that would hold up or flex to much and crack if they made one.
