Default Diagnostics / Scantool source ?

Hi chaps

Is there still a source for getting a cheap ScanTool/interface kits - the sort you
can hook up to your laptop?

Most of the threads on the subject seem long dead.

Cheers

I've heard of durametric, but I don't have any first hand experience.

Cheers Dan.

Thanks for the link.

The one I was thinking of was a kit. I think I remember seeing a 'group buy' on here a while back. I belive it was quite a bit cheaper than the Durametric version.

I've been keeping a lookout for the new 'group buy' event for the last year, but still nothing. It's apparently an upgraded version of the unit in the 'long dead' links.

I have 2 items that you could use.

The bare printed circuit board from an an early attempt, never did anything w/ it

One of Ricardo's kits, I never used it because it can't get past a 993 immobilizer. It comes w/ the trapezoidal OBD2 connector so yoiu would need to get a round OBD1 connector

If you need a 19 pin plug, I have them available.
I'm still working on the hammer clone - work in progress....

Well Jim,
I'm in the middle of moving to Kauai, car is getting ready to ship in 2 weeks from NorCal to Kauai along with most of my stuff. I've already shipped the wife and dog, one vehicle and all my aloha shirts.

I was sniffing the traffic between the hammer and the car, but to find all the codes from a perfectly running car, I would have to disconnect sensors, etc.....too time consuming. So what I got now is a protoboard that emulates the various ECU's . It responds to hammer requests, and I write down the code that it generates. This way I'll get the protocals for a C4 PDAS, which my car doesn't have along with the TIP ECU, Air Bag ECU, etc. The circuit for the knock counter is done, as well as the most of the hardware. I've been working on it as time permits.

richardo moved to CA, and I hear from him on a rare occassion. I don't believe he's making any more of the scantool units; he's working for Apple now.

Bill / Mojorizing

Bless you chaps - thanks for the offers, I may well take you up on them. I guess the 993 version
has the switch, which would be redundant on my 964 and I'd just need to rewire in Mojorizing's plug.

I shall PM you both now.
