What are the best "bang for your buck" 964 mods???
Long story short I bought a 91 964 in the spring that I was going to drive for a little while and re-sell. I was never a big fan of these cars, but this one kind of found me and it was a deal I couldn't refuse. Well, as it turns out I REALLY like it and now I want to do some mods. I already have cars with track suspension, harnesses, no heat or air etc... and don't want to go that route with this car.
I'm looking for opinions on exhaust, chips, clutch etc... What's going to make this car more fun to drive without it having exhaust drone or being difficult to drive? It feels kind of lazy or heavy now. Right now it's all stock except for H&R coilovers and Speedline wheels. I'm also looking for a fiberglass carrera tail and front splitter for it. Spend my money, but don't waste it please. Thanks.

+1 on weight reduction. Lots of low-hanging fruit there, but not so much with the engine. Here is my list to date:
Primary by-pass
Heater blower by-pass
RS pulley mod (also saves on rotational inertia because the alternator turns slower)
RS manual rack (lose the mass, rotating inertia, and power drain of the pump)
Upgrade the speakers and get the heavy cross-over out of the door panels.
On the list:
LWF. I have driven a car with one. It makes a noticeable difference in the engine character. Every bit of weight helps, and rotating mass and unsprung mass make far more difference than dead weight.
Seats. 964 seats are heavy, but I am not sure I want to sacrifice comfort in a car I use for long trips.
Tires: both rotating and unsprung mass. Need to find out who makes the lightest.
Driver: could lose about 10 kilos of mass there, and driver skill is the best performance mod of all.

How is the sound with the primary bypass? Is it real loud? Is there any drone? If I get rid of the cat also would it trigger a check engine light?
I've read about the lwf mod and it sounds like a good idea. I don't want to get into re-gearing the trans at this point.
Thanks for the RS alignment specs. It's going for an alignment Wednesday and I'll give it a try.
No one has mentioned a chip. Do any of them work well?

I dont think the US 91 model came with a bulb in the check engine light from the factory. Somebody must have stuck one in yours.

Depending on mileage, I would start be renewing *every* bushing, every rubber part in the whole suspension, then the rubber brake lines. After that a good alignment adapted to your uses. If you have some money left, then get a driving course.
Once you feel the car is keeping you from going faster, you can lighten/stiffen/add power as needed.
I wonder how many on this forum know how these cars drive when they are to factory spec, i.e. with good condition drivetrain. I know mine has 140+ Kmiles on it, so wil not deliver as intended in 1989.

The consensus seems to be the Steve Wong chip I believe, though there are some "non-believers" in the ranks.
You mention that you might want to add a fibre glass tail. i personally am not that keen on the look unless you are announcing "turbo." The simplicity of the 964 is part of the beauty, IMO.
