Default Oil leak in the Front?!

Turns out I have some fun to deal with. Woke up this morning to find a nice sized oil puddle towards the front of the car. Do you think this will be a job for a mechanic or can I handle something like this myself. I am no porsche mechanic but I have worked on lots of diesels in the past and have some experience with these kind of problems. Im in a hurry to go to work but I will post pics soon.

right front? oil cooler most likely. oil lines likely seeping or leaking at fittings.

Front passenger side. Sorry thought I included that haha.

If it was my steering rack. How would I know?

Sounds like either the oil cooler or oil line fittings at the cooler are leaking pretty bad.

Jack up and remove front wheel. Remove plastic wheel liner at the front and have a look.

If it's the lines you need to remove a lot more of the plastic covers and rocker panel parts to removethe long lines that run from the thermostat at the front of the rear wheel.

The job is pretty straight forward I can email you some notes I gleaned from this site and others on repairing the lines (if that's what's leaking...).

Let us know what you see,

What color is the oil? Does it have a smell? Do you have a C2 or C4? If it smells like sulfur, it could be a front diff leak.

By the way, have you checked your trunk for leaky oil bottles? I store two quarts in my trunk for emergencies. One time, a bottle developed a leak and I had a mystery puddle under the car. I was happy to find it was a simple cause.

I had a similar-sounding leak once... few drops under right front fender in front of tire. I accessed the oil cooler, tightened the fittings just a hair, and the leak never recurred. Previously, I had replaced the steering rack when it developed a leak. Power steering fluid feels and smells different from engine oil, and a leak at the rack -- at least in my case -- manifested itself under the front center of the car, between the front wheels.

Check the oil as a start. Black/brown from the engine, red/brown for the steering rack.
